      Are you talking about the button on top of the head? I use it to stop the blades if they're still turning when the engine is idling.

          For looks. I always take mine off.

          #1 because they can cause more damage in crashes with some helicopter designs due to restricting blade grip travel.

          #2 less weight and IMO looks better without it.

          As for slowing down the blades auto it down and use pitch to slow the blades down.
