  • Raptor 90 Redline 100 transplant and cheap Canomod canopies!!!!

Just in case anyone was wondering whether a Redline 100 motor and Hi-flow 100 3D pipe would fit the original Raptor 90: I've just managed to shoe-horn one in. The standard Raptor 90 SE engine mount doesn't fit aroudn the Redline 100 engine so.... I managed to 'carefully' trim the mount by slicing two mm off on each inside edge with, get this, a hacksaw. lol lol It worked though and the motor fits. Clutch and lines up okay and I can still adjust the alignment.
Other problems involved: the 100 pipe manifold won't fit pas the cooling shroud and this need a small section trimming out. Otherwise, the motor fits like a bodged up glove. lol
The cylinder head is a pretty tight fit into the cooling shroud, but it doesn't touch anywhere.
With it's RJX flybarless head, G4 landing skid struts and pipes, and Fusano canopy, the old girl almost looks as
    trick as my G4 (almost).
One last thing, today I noticed that Midland Helicopters are selling off lots of Canomod canopies for various machines. I got the Solem Raptor 90 FRP canopy (normally nearly £80) for £42. Bargain. Check out Midland for other bargain Canomods before they're all gone.

Would post a picture of the R90, but I can't be bothered as this site seems to run soooo slowly on my PC!!

Pics a bit scratchy, and I haven't finished plumbing etc yet, but here's some pics of of the old girl after a little surgery earlier this afternoon.

The old raptor is still a really smart looking machine. Who would ever have thought that ugly wee raptor 30 which flew great btw would turn evolve into machines as smart and capable as they have.
The man that has never crashed a heli has never flown a heli.

Very nice I like that did the G4 landing struts fit with no messing with the holes, and how is the GT-5.....

The G4 struts fit straight on using the original R90 mounting position. Same bascially. It's gonna get the G4 metal tail box next.
The G4 tail control rod guides also fit. The boom is the same size and would fit.
Only reservations so far are if the standard clutch will hold up with the 100 engine. It's got two choices!! The clutch and bell are new, as was the R90 airframe.
Sold my original R90 to a guy from Peterborough last Sept and he was going to electrify it!! Bought this one a couple of weeks ago from a guy from Scarborough who had built the airframe, but never had an engine in it. Literally, as good as new. £230. Bit of a bargain really. Had to buy the Fusano canopy, so it looked just like my old one. Bit passionate about the R90, don't know why, just am.
Took off the SE frame stiffeners and base plate to save weight and with the FBL head it's almost the same weight as my G4. Flew great with OS Speed engine, till I cooked it!!
The Gt-5 is really good, I love it. Have it on 3 machines now. However, the tail runs better with the GY 701 gyro and governor combo, with the GT-5 controlling just the head. I've found this to work very nicely on both the G4 and R90. The tail was okay just with the GT-5, but now I can control the head and tail gains independantly on seperate Tx switches.

I put a YS120 in a Raptor 90 3D FBL and the clutch was ok, in fact it fitted no problem, I had the gear ratio at 7.6.1 then tried 8.1 that heli went in though, still got a nice 90se and would like a big engine in that......

Was it a standard clutch with the YS 120? If standard clutch handled that motor, it should be okay with Redline 100. Standard clutch was pretty fine with the HZR 91 Speed, so..... you don't reckon I should put a heavy duty clutch in it?
