  • 50 Titan V3 down!

    Lost my 50 V3 yesterday on landing.
    I was about 2m up and the tail belt split lengthways.
    Tail gave up - too close to try anything - still in St-1 so when I pulled back on the collective, she sat down very hard. Damage isn't too gruesome but I'm wondering what made the belt split down the middle.
    It has flown a fair bit lately with no issues and the belt was new in Oct after I had accidentally popped a pulley while holding the heli upside down to inspect something and the belt came off (no damage that time!).
    I'm confident I didn't do that again!

    Anyone else had anything like this? Faulty belt perhaps there is a faint mark in the texture of the belt where it's not split.

      I've never seen a belt split lengthwise before. Usually they start shredding teeth.

      Is it a sign of the belt being too loose, and the two sides chattering against each other half way along the boom maybe?

        I've seen this happen before, it was a poorly seated guide pulley that did it that time, the metal edge of the pulley cut the belt.

        I'd also wonder if the belt was too loose, with the recent colder weather it can easily happen.

          The belt was definitely tight enough - and there is what looks like a flaw in the un-split sections that is quite clear to see. I have some photos - I'll post one later. It looks like the belt material hasn't formed properly around one of the fibres running through it.
