  • Raptor 50 electric conversion

I've got my trusty Raptor 50 which I'm enjoying lots and intend to put into an apache body. The problem lies in the fact that if I'm going to turn it into a scale bird then the nirto engine could be a pain - fuel leakage, exhaust placement, glow plug changing, tubing, etc.

Today I discovered that you can get an electric conversion kit for the Raptor
    http://www.helihobby.com/html/raptor_heli.html (bottom of page)

    and

    and

Does anyone here have one and/or can comment on it's performance/cost?

    Cheers!

I thought the raptor 30 was upgradable to the E550 frame conversion etc the head is the same anyway.
Surely someone out there does a conversion kit.
Either that or sell the Raptor & buy a Trex 600AF, they are very good for scale models ask raptor50luver he has the Airwolf & it realy looks the part in the air.

I was considering the TRex 600, but I thought the electric conversion would be simpler and cheaper.

I have a 50 size Apache kit from http://www.approachengineering.com/ which I know works with the Raptor 50

where is the apache fuz your thinking if fitting - found it.
i would put a md530 on the raptor - keep it nitro and get a trex600 electric for the apache.

the md530 fuz looks easier than the apache to maintain and get to parts of your heli while its in the fuz but ive had to take mine out a few time.

had to take it out of the md530 though to tighten tail belt, change tail servo and exhaust.

If your interested weetobix I might be selling my align 600af trex it's the ally framed version. This would just be the Heli with electrics i.e motor speed controller voltage regulator unit with 7.4v lipo, voltage dropper unit. It wont have any servos rx or flight pack or main blades as this will be going into a new heli.
I am almost certainly going to also be selling my raptor 50 with all metal head & tail, carbon 3d fin & stab OS 50 hyper & a JR airskipper 50 exhaust.
My heli flying has come on so quick in the last month I need one of the new design helis either a knight 3d or possibly an align 600 N or Pro.

Did a bit of my routine with my Raptor 50 today and it can only be described as hard work compared to a 600N,the Align heli is far more precise and feels much lighter to fly

The Raptor is bog standard config though

This is why I need a trx 600 N or kight 3d chris I think my 50 is going to hold me back with reliability issues.
It's an upgraded v1 30 to 50 with all the bling but the base kit still has plastic frame spacers around the main shaft etc it had a v1 clutch in it it's just so not an SE it's untrue even though I paid 50 SE money for it.

That's kind of tempting to go for the 600 - all depends whether the Apache kit would fit ok

Thanks for that, but I already have a scale kit - just need the electric bits to go inside

I converted a R50 slimer to electric a while ago for someone by buying all the necessary E550 spares. I can't remember the exact cost but I think it was about 70 quid. Peanuts compared to the cost of all the stuff you'll need to make it go.

                              Hi Lenny,
I think it depends on the state of your current Rappy. I just had a quick look through the spares list on Realraptors and it would be about £80 to convert yours to an aluminium framed bare electric. On the one we did, we wanted to use A123 packs and so made our own lower frames, removing them from the cost.
If your current Rappy is in good order and has any required upgrades, this could be a good way to go, but bear in mind that a new E550 kit is under £200.

You could also have a look at http://www.tppacks.com/products.asp?cat=17 and there is also the uber expensive Xero G conversion, http://www.realraptors.co.uk/zen-car...x&cPath=154_67

The £300 that the E620 costs is getting very close to Logo 600 money. I know which I'd rather have.

ps. I got the Katana going. Very nice until I pranged it. Just needs a bit cyanoing though. It's a shame helis aren't so cheap to repair.
