  • Chnaging the Main Gear On a Raptor E550 to a larger one?

    Hello all,

Just a quick question to see if anyone has ever increased the size of the main gear on the Raptor E550.. I have had a look at mine and there is a little space for expansion (possible problems with the motor mount though)

I have a motor with a 6mm output shaft, and i can use a 10T pinion on the 111T main gear ok - being a 6mm output shaft limits the smallest sized pinion to 10T..

I am just wondering - if the 10T pinion is the smallest pinion i can fit on the motor - is it possible to increase the size of the main gear...

has anyone done this (on this heli or anyother for that matter)

    Thanks
    Matt

In a word ,,,no, that size main gear 111T is designed for both the E550 and the 620SE-basically the electric versions of the raptor nitro 30 and 50 /Titan helicopters- I'am still running both of mine with 6 cells in the 550 and 10s in the 620se- you can use a smaller pinion on a 6mm shaft: part no-PV0545 9T- Will give you slightly less power,,, you could always go smaller as the raptor main gear is available in 85 and 96T-never tried it myself though !! Manual is spot on regarding power setup though,,

      Hi 3DX,

Thank you for your input - Nice hearing it from someone else with the same model...

when i get home i will just test fit that 9t pinion - I thought it would only fit 5mm shafts? Maybe my memory is a little off.

Something else that came to mind with this is: teeth size Vs Dia of the main gear...

you could have two main gears, one 111T with 1 MOD teeth, and one 130T with 0.7 Mod teeth...

So although one has more teeth, its actual diameter maybe the same or very similar - How does this effect the motor?

Its leverage on the shaft is the same, but the "gear" ratio bewteen the number of teeth is increased but the teeth are smaller and fit into less space)

I would have thought for the motor to gain anything the size of the cog itself needs to be bigger or smaller?
