Destroying plugs???

  • Destroying plugs???

    My Titan is now destroying a glow plug a flight, will fly ok then when i refuele it will not start and the plug is dead, ritchen the mixture up to silly levels and it makes no difference, stumped??

    What engine are you using? I know that with OS engines at least, this is a sign that the bearings need to be changed. The rust etc. flakes off the bearings, gets into the head and destroys the plug.

          Change the bearings, and your problems will go away!

              yes - its almost certain that bits of metal ( probably from the bearing cage or bearing itself ) is destroying the element..

                I also had a similar problem using silicon based sealant to mount the pipe. Tiny bits of silicon would get blown back into the engine and lie in the coils of the plugs. Wouldn't tick over but if I kept the revs up it would run.

                  Ok bearings it was, easy fix, must have been going for a while and affetcting the Gyro because the tail is so much smoother now.
