  • Main gear/shaft movement

    Hi folks,

I'm new to the Raptor world but truly loving it so far.

I have test flown my Raptor 90 SE 3 times now, basically breaking the engine in, but i have noticed on the last flight that there was a strange noise coming from it, i stopped immediately and couldn't see anything obvious but then noticed that the main gear was sitting on top of the tail pinion gear. Ihave since noticed that there is approx 3-4mm play in the main shaft.

I have tried to work out whats causing this but can't, any help help would be appreciated.

    Woody.

Have you got the main shaft bearings up the right way?
Is the main shaft clamp under the top bearing?
    Cheers Daren

slacken the lower mainshaft bearing holder bolts
push the bearing holder up and tighten the bolts
this will cure the up/down movement on the mainshaft

if you have worn the collar at the top bearing to much just turn it up the otherway and then adjust the free play out of the mainshaft

and this should hopefully cure the gear problem

if not you should look at daren's post

Yip spot the newbie i had the lower main bearing upside down.

Thanks for your help guys, just need to try and iron out the vibrations just before hover now so back to checking all linkages, blade pitch etc

        Cheers

make sure the dapers are well lubed
the flybar is at equal distances, the paddles on at the same angle(ie in line with each other)
          and the blades in track
and the blades aren't over tight
if it then still vibes (assuming the head speed isn't to low)
fly the heli, you may find that the head settles down and the feathering spindle adjusts itself in centre and the vibe goes

my std 90 from my md500 that i crashed had a vibe to start with (after a full rebuild) flying pod and boom
after trying another set of blades, and checking it over and over, flying it cured it
its now back in the md500 vibration free
i've even had comments of how free of vibrations it is for a hughes 500 scale machine

The Raptor 90 will start oscillating, around a 1600 Head speed, just alter the curve above or below this head speed.
