  • Clutch help?

Thought would change the engine on my 50V2 as I need to run in a TT53 redline. On fitting the engine I found the clutch has some side to side movement and the clutch was making a scraping noise when I turned the blades.

The older engine was also a TT53 redline setup the same which ran with no problems or clutch noises.

Did you leave the washer under the fan hub when you fitted it. I did and had the same problem.

I think there is a spec change on the new engines as i had to remove the washer on my new rl53 as the top of the clutch was scraping on the underside of the clutch cup.

Cheers ddracer did what you said and all is well many thanks on the new engine. Now thought I would do the same on the older 53 and on turning the engine over by hand found the engine had no compression and had a slight rattling sound. Removed the pipe to see a broken piston ring and a huge scatch down the side of the piston.

I dont use a TT53 engine, I use a Os 55 and had a very similar problem, posted a thread on here and the majority favored removing the washer.
As a double check I rang Fastlad, they said to remove the washer.
The problem is that before I did this I emailed OS costumer support,

"I have installed an OS 55 Hyper in to my Thunder tiger Raptor 50, I am having problems getting clearance from my clutch and clutch bell. The top of the clutch is touching the top of the clutch bell. I have been advised to remove the thrust washer, part number 46120000, from the crankshaft, to resolve this problem. Would you advise this ?"

When I eventually got a response some 8 days later

"Thank you for your recent email.
The thrust washer needs to stay on the engine. The clutch set up goes according to the heli, you might try contacting Thunder Tiger for more information on their clutch system."

So the choice is yours, mine is removed with no ill effects that I can see

            Regards

The washer does nothing for the end float on the TT53 (possibly different on the OS) as one side sits on the fan hub and the otherside sit on a lip on the crank, doesn't have contact with the bearing or the crank case. When you remove the washer the fan hub sits in exactly the same place the washer did. It hard to explain without seeing it.
