  • "Chirrupping" Raptor

I have recently discovered a strange sound from my Raptor 30.

On loading the head by hovering or climbing I get a high frequency squeak that I can only best describe as a "chirrupping or squeaking" sound a bit like a high frequency bird sound. Don't laugh...it's the only way I can describe itlol

On losing height, and unloading the mast/head it goes away. Hover, climb it comes back.

I'm guessing main bearings maybe a bit dry or on their way out, but someone must have had this before. I've not tried a bit of lube on the bearings as I didn't get any flying in last weekend, but what do you think?

    Clean, sensible answers only please

    Cheers

    David

What headspeed are you running? It could be a touch low for the pitch you are trying to pull

About 1800, but the headspeed has not changed, just the new noise.

drop some thin oil in the bearings on the main shaft and clutch stack, and also might be worth checking your blade grip bearings too, plenty of grease on the thrust bearings

Thought about the main bearings, but thrust & clutch stack is a new idea.

Cheers, I'll let you know next weekend I hope. Poxy weather permitting!

All the funny noises on my rappy were traced to the beearing that is on the main pinion that screws into the clutch bell. The load (more on a 50) frets the bearing on the pinion and makes it come loose, then the pinion wears inside the bearing and the clutch starts to get wobbly.
              I'm on my third pinion.
Since using loctite retainer to fit the bearing to the pinion it is lasting better.

                All's OK - I think.

A bit of lube on the shaft bearings and starter shaft bearings seem to have quietened it down.

                Hope it stays that way.

Thanks for the advice guys. Appreciated.
