  • Throttle Jockey Pro

Bought a 2nd hand Throttle Jockey Pro off e-bay (should know better) and having a problem to get it t engage and control. Got the set up instructions off the internet, the set light comes as the throttle is raised and the SENS light flashes when I spin the head, so I presume the sensor is set right. However when I throttle up the governor does not control the rpm, anyone had issues before or have any ideas?
    Thanks guys

'Just thought I'd post before this thread falls off the main screen

I have a TJ pro that came with a heli already installed and I thought I had set the channel to a switch and set the travels etc. but also cannot tell if it's working.

I have a printed manual and had misplaced it but just found it again today so I'm going to see about getting it figured out soon.

Just make sure you haven't got the channel that your using to switch headspeeds reversed

I have had this problem with the on on my velo. It took ages to get it to kick in, tweaking with the throttle curves gave it the range it wanted within the governor

On Sunday I read the manual on the TJ Pro and there are two key things
          that I had missed before.

The first thing is that I have never done the calibration function for my TX (DX7). I bought the heli 2nd hand and it had the throttle jocky already installed and wired to the RX (Spektrum AR9000) so since it was already connected and had been run before and all I was doing was just binding the heli to my TX I figured it should just work.

The other thing is that it does not respond the same way to the ATV values on all TX's, so different TX's ATV settings give different RPM outputs.(previously it had been controlled by a JR 388X)

I had played with the ATV's and had them both up quite high in an attempt to see if the headspeed increased but the TJ ignores values over 100 or under something like 5 if memory serves.

Anyway, I know it's working now because when I set the ATV on one switch position to 41 ('just trying to go well below 100 and see what happens) it was screaming away. So either the value of 41 is resulting in a very high rpm or it is disengaging and I'm seeing the underlying throttle curve (I think it's the former).

So next time out I'll go through the calibration routine and then see what travel values are needed. But at least I think I know how it works now.

            Hi,

The Throttle jockey Pro works in the same way as as the newer RevMAX/ThrottleMAX in that it will engage above 25% throttle/stick travel.

If you are using a DX7 it should be connected so that it utilises the AUX2 switch for switching speeds and also utilises the AUX2 ATV settings for setting the speed.

Best thing to do once you have confirmed it is connected correctly is to perform the calibration phase again:

            Spektrum DX-7

The Super Simple Set-Up (provided by Paul Beard)

            Calibration procedure:

AUX on TJ/RM plugged into = AUX2 (channel 7) on Spektrum RX

Get your throttle ATV's as close to 100/100 as possible.

            AUX2 ATV's = 100/100

Go to system menu (INPUT SELECT )and set AUX2 = AUX2 (not INH or Gyro) and GEAR = GYRO

(Your Gyro Gain needs to be plugged into CH5 now.)

            Norm throttle curves 0%-100%

Throttle stick and trim at low and AUX2 switch up.

Turn on heli and wait for the Yellow and Red LED on the TJ/RM to go out after the Spektrum Rx initializes and then flip AUX2 switch to down position and wait 2 seconds. You will get the flashing green LED indicating calibration mode. Go to high stick(yellow LED) and then back to low stick(green LED again). Flip AUX2 switch back to high and green LED will go out. Calibration done.

Using low values on the ATV screen will not allow the TJPro to engage and can sometimes be heard as a hunting of the engine/governor. Once you have calibrated it set the ATV's to 60% on one side and 70% on the other side this will give you a definate difference to test for governor engagement without the risk of overspeeding the head, then you can tacho the head and increase the values untill you reach the desired headspeed. I've not run a TJPro in a while and have generally run RevMAX's but i believe that you just use a standard 'V' curve in the idle up throttle curve for the TJpro.

            Hope this helps!
            Thanks!
