  • N5 TT conversion

Just saw this conversion on another site and was wondering if anyone here has tried it, i know the belt drive works fine but like to know how it compares.

    Hi,

The initial release in the USA sold out almost instantly, the UK usually takes a few weeks due to UK Customs etc..

The torgue tube conversion is very robust utilising the same Mod 1.25 gears used in the E7/E5 TT transmission assemblies. The torque tube drive will give a slight increase in power due to the the reduced friction from the belt drive.

    Conversion kit Features:
    Precision CNC machined bevel gears
Unparalleled Mod 1.25 Shaft Driven Tail Transmission
4.5:1 Tail Gear Ratio for supreme tail authority
Tail boom length optimized for 600-620mm main rotor blades
Dual Ball Bearing supported aluminum torque tube shaft
    Easily Serviceable/Removable torque tube ends
    6mm tail output shaft included
New easy to install tail push rod ends included

    Hope this helps,
    Cheers,

Overseas I put myself on the email alert for when is stock at several vendors. Straight out of stock again. I think FBL Rotors might be next shows as 6 due this week, put on the list and get in there. Could always arrive in UK at our stores before I get mine but that's just a calculated gamble. Also price as well after duties prob cost me £150.00 which is about what I would expect here. Just nice to know one on its way.

Managed to get a bit of free time today to install the TT conversion. Packaging is good, online instructions clear. Basically remove the back end, pulley and counter gear. Dry mount TT CF plates clamp up and drill 4 3mm holes (remove from umbrella gear and mount before you drill). Now reassemble sytematcally with loctite. Loctite counter gear and reinstall head with new gear.

Tail gearbox give options to pin, I chose to do this. I mounted the gearbox fully put a guide hole in but later it was a fraction out as the tail gearbox in my case didn't seat quite as far back. No problem I fractionally 1/2mm backed boom from front. If doing again I would mount everything first then pin the boom.

Remove tail grips and slider, mount these and flip grips. Easy enough blades rotate clockwise so nice Rail motif faces the boom now. Adjust pushrod easy with new ends and your about done.

Check FBL end points and direction and go fly :-)

Seems very smooth and well thought out.

Get all your glueing done first like TT bearings and an end of pushrod then do the switch. Just saves time and glue gets good time to cure.

Overall I like it, no more typing off to fly it.

No idea what's going in with the pic!!!
