  • N5 and Elevator Servo Horn

Am I being an absolute fruitcake here. The elevator balls rub on the servo case of the 610's and the thread of the ball rubs on the aileron control rods. Yes I can cut the stud left over off and space the servo horn off, but should I have to. Or have I got it completely wrong?

I am wondering after seeing Ian's post yesterday and some other problems whether I've done the right thing.

Oh, and another thing whilst I'm on one, the manual needs a little more information. Head geometry etc.

Although I'm running Futaba BLS451's i don't have ny issues and there is plenty of clearance! I've never used Align servos so I couldn't comment on them but I could be helpful if you could post a picture of this.
    Thanks!

It's difficult to get a reliable focus but you can sort of see it.

This one you can see the thread left on the ball screw rubs on the control rods

those horns must be a little shorter in height than the futaba heavy duty ones i was using, or perhaps the case is slightly taller?

Those servos look to be taller than my futs where the shaft extends out of the case for the servo horn. The servos I have, the ball link catches the servo arm slightly.

I think if I take the label off it might just clear ;-) I'll probably put a shim between the horn and the output shaft or have a look at different horns. How critical is the 13.5 centres I saw someones with the Align round type horns. I wasn't too bothered about the length of stud left as it can be filed or cut. Do 610's really buzz like they're jammed solid against something

Yeh try taking the sticker off lol
I think the shim idea is way to go. I couldnt say on the 13.5 centres, I have no example as a reason why but I wouldnt want to bring the ball links closer to the centre of the servo, expecially with the 2 way pully. Doesnt sound very good :/. If you're extending outwards then I prefer that way.

Same on my 5, and yes 610s do buzz, Align should supply ear defenders with them

I set servos up as per the manual, and all rod lengths as per the manual and she hovered almost perfectly on her maiden, a couple of click back and right was all that was needed.

The profile of Align 610s are a lot higher than Futaba BLS servos, found this out on the 700 and never really noticed before.

The Align wheels would give you a larger gap, if they are the correct resolution for the N5.

Theyre not quite right Paul but I'll look around for something different. I don't know if I'll be able to put up with the buzzing from them though. Doing my head in just setting up
