Phasing

Sorry another post/question from me...

Whilst looking into phasing on my Trex500, i thought i'd check the N5.

If my understanding of Finless' video on the subject of Phasing is correct, when the elevator ball is inline with inner swash plate ball and blades @ 90 degrees to the boom, the flybar should line up dead center down the length of the boom.

It doesn't on my N5.

My questions are thus:-

a) is my understanding is correct and that my N5 needs some phase adjustment?

b) if (a) is correct, does undoing the grub screw on the swash plate allow me to make this adjustment?

We are talking about 4-5 degree angle here.

Hi,

Don't worry about Phasing issues on the N5!!, there is none!!

The grub screw on the swashplate is for pre-tensioning the swashplate bearing, or re-tensioning of the bearing in the future! it does not affect the phasing.

Sounds like the N5 has some pre-built in phase correction, Usually by a few degrees. (4 to 5 degrees is common for most phase corrections)

However, different blades will effect the phasing differently. So you might need to create a tiny mix if you have a set of blades that don't track too well during flips etc.

The N5 flys straight as an arrow, and has no phasing problems what so ever. I just sold mine last night so can't check I mine was the same, but like I say, don't worry about it. As callum has rightly pointed out, it is probably a in built phasing correction

Yeah same here, arrow straight - put it into a big loop with no crosswind and watch it come out on the same line, perfect (something in my opinion Align has never managed on any of it's helis without mixes).

Does going FBL remove this issue?

There is no "issue" to solve! The FBL head does have a separate swash driver, so you have to set the phasing accordingly.

Changing the swash driver on a FBL won't change phasing, but will change the delta mix instead if I'm not mistaken?

When doing up my swash driver am I right to just sight down the pushrods & try my best to line it up with the main shaft or is there another way to get the phasing right with flybarless?

with heads that have a flat like the velocity I just get above it and line the swash driver arm up with that. Makes it easier I find.
