  • n5 build question

    just a quicky!

    im assuming from this pic:

that the n5 can be built as the kit then engine and and all electronics installed afterwards?

i thort id made my mind up on a Protos but decided against it, its just i will be buying the bits week by week or month and wont be able to leave the kit sat in the box till i have accumulated all parts for it haha

ill leave this thread for more questions to come!

    Yes.
The servos have a handy tray you can pull out and put back in.
The bottom plate will need taking off but as far as I can remember assemble the frame and leccys and motor after.

      thank you very muchly!

just another thing im looking at going flybarless with the vbar. but what im not understanding is rx setup. am i right in thinking that you only need 1 or 2 sats and then you bind ur tx to the vbar?

            Hi,

You can basically build the airframe and then leave certain bits for a later time.

If you leave the front radio tray and upper servo tray loose they they can be removed for installing the servos and other avionics etc.. Also, same goes for the clutch stack, this can be installed loose and then when you get the engine it can be installed and aligned and meshed.

If you are going VBar, then you will just require 2 satellites for plugging into the VBar unit.
            Thanks!

Right another question then and thanks gprs the guys who replied ill rep when I get back on pc for phoenix later on.

I am new to nitro or will be when I get the thing but I'm assuming the OS 55 HZ or whatever is the same dimensions as the 50SXH-R? and either will fit in there plus do I have to get the same make pipe as the OS one is like 90 quid and the outrage one is like 60 do they actually make a massive difference to a beginner?

The OS55HZ and OS50SXH are basically the same dimensions so either will work, can highly recommend the OS55HZ, it's an excellent engine and the three needle carb gives you excellent tuneability.

I personally don't have any experience of the outrage pipes but I would recommend going for a high end exhaust as they can make all the difference to the performance of the engine. A good 55 class exhaust like the Hatori brings the OS55 alive! The PS power boost pipe is also supposed to be good although invent tried it myself. If your after a good, cost effective exhaust then the Align 50H pipe is excellent for the money.
                Thanks!

Have to agree to go for the 55.. a great engine

But on the exhaust note .. The hatori on the 55 is actually not as good as their 90 pipes, along with the MP5 even though some are happy with them.. The powerboost, GP, Outrage and TT High flow pipes are the better ones for the 55.. for good performance and value for money Outrage/Align 50/Funtech... I feel the outrage pipe offers only a slight increase in performance to the Align 50 and sounds a little better

so that sorta sums that up, but what do i need to know about throttle servos? i believe the N5 uses a mini servo?? if not what should i be looking at? or what should i be looking at anyways?

                      Mini? who told you that?

They are standard full sized servo's.. and it again depends on what you want to spend? A good ecomonic route would be the Aligns DS610's for cyclics and the older DS620 for tail (but you can use the newer DS650).. then you can go up to the big boys stuff like the JR8717HV's or Outrage BL8190HV.. but you talking over £100 per servo!

just the throttle? servo lol after ive read it it does sound like i meant all servos but i guess not even the throttle is a mini? i dunno where it came from but i have been looking at so many choppers i must have got muddled up. i was either looking at (big difference i know) the outrage 9080 servos for cyclic or the align ones depending on funds or what i decide on at the time. and deffo a 9088 on the tail thats set in stone

EDIT: page A6 in the N5 manual mini digital servo only! i was assuming this was the throttle servo

                          Hi,

The N5 uses Standard size servos for cyclic and rudder but uses a mini servo for the throttle. This is excellent design as it is all that's required really for the throttle!!

I run Futaba BLS451's on my cyclic and a BLS251 on the rudder and they are excellent servos! On the throttle I use a Spektrum H5000 mini servo but you could use anything like an Align 510/520, Futaba 9257/BLS257, JR3500G or any other mini sized servo.

                          Hope this helps!
                          Thanks!

right what sort of BEC and batts are we looking at on something like this? say if i was to put HV servos on.

and how much is it for the pro software on the vbar? so i can use the governor in that and that could save me an expense?

There are a few regulators out there which you could choose from like the Gryphon, ReactorX etc... These will allow you to run higher voltages to your cyclic servos and a stepped down voltage to your tail servo.

I am a big believer in keeping it simple and on my N5 I run a Spektrum AR7100R with a Thunder Power 3600mah Rx LiPo but with the added weight of the regulator etc you may have to run a smaller LiPo to get the balance correct especially for Flybarless!

The cost for updating the VBar software to the 5.1 version is free if you have the 'Pro' version of the software, if not it will cost you $45 USD according to the Mikado website.
                              Thanks!
