NEW Synergy N5 Auto-Hub

Just picked up one of these new Auto-Hub's for the Synergy N5 and I have to say I'm impressed with it! It has zero slop in it and feels a very substantial unit which has been very well machined and assembled. The bearing feels incredibly smooth and precise so I'm looking forward to getting this fitted and flown.

I will post some pictures of the installation and keep the thread updated with how it performs compared to the standard unit but so far it looks an excellent unit. Must say that after doing the modification to the standard hub by polishing the sleeve and removing the grease and re-lubing with oil it has performed faultlessly but the new feels very smooth and slop free so I thought I would give it a go and compare!

It's goos to see a Matt and Synergy taking note of issues and quickly addressing them and producing an excellent unit!!

Do Midlands stock these? The part numbers are the same, but no piccie! I would order from F/L but I need a mainshaft collar+screws and they are out of stock!

I think it looks a little chunkier, but at the same time has some bits machined off. My Standard auto hub is starting to lock up again so lost patience and buying this upgraded one. Unfortunately the mainshaft collar is on so tight I rounded the bolt so need to drill it out, will probably bugger the collar at the same time so was looking to save on postage

Have to change my main gear,, to much slop in mesh and striped some teeth,
Think I'm going to have trouble with my main shaft collar as well,,

I drilled out the engine mt block to 3.1mm, and elongated the holes in the side frames and put long M3 cap head bolts with Nyloc nuts through the hole assembly. This gives me the ability to slide the engine back and forth to get the correct gear mesh.

I could never see the point of being able to move the clutch stack, but not the engine.

Hey Guys,

I've had the new auto hub fitted for a few months now and it's performing perfectly! The unit is slightly less bulky than the original unit surprisingly but it feels much more substantial and the bearing is much smoother, also there is zero slop or excess float between the hub and the sleeve.

I fitted the new hub wihout any modification so that I could test it out of the bag and it's spot on!!

Spanner: if you need a collar let me know I might have a spare I could send you to get you up and running. Also, if you need a collar and it's out of stock you could use any 10mm collar and I believe the Mikado collars are a good match to the N5 ones, I'll find the part number and post it later.

Got a new hub from midlands in the end, a couple of pics to show the difference, the new one definately feels a lot more substantial, the bearing and sleeve are significantly larger and there is now not as much, if any, float now its installed :-




I ended up getting an Avant collar from Midlands, but it has two grub/set screws to hold the collar in place rather than the friction fit of the Synergy one. I'll give it a go and see how it fares.

Good to know you got sorted, the only problem i can see with using an avant collar as opposed to the clamp type of the Synergy one is the set screws will dig into the main shaft and cause problems for removing the mainshaft in the future.
