Synergy N5 opinions?

matt, i was an early synergy adopter and unfortunately a seller as well. the heli just felt too heavy in the air for me, do you plan to make a lighter version at any point?

your spot on about your dealer-climbout are spot on and treated me well and if the heli was lighter i'd still have it.

My N5's have always been right at 8lbs, which is not the lightest 50 class heli on the planet but also not the heaviest. The biggest factor that can affect performance and make the heli feel sluggish is blade choice. The N5 has a substantially larger rotor diameter than that of a standard 600 class helicopter. This means that disk loading is going to be substantially higher to start with and if heavy 600 blades are chosen then you have another spinning mass factor. The further out you spin the mass the harder it is for the motor to recover from a load and maintain RPM. The sweet spot is with blades that weight 125 grams or less(Radix SB's). This keeps the rotating mass of the blades low while still taking advantage of the smooth tracking the larger disk gives you. If you find the N5 is too fast with Radix SB's, I would adjust your mixing ratios. I should have posted notes like this in the manual but the amount of work involved in just illustrating the assembly drove me insane.

Another tip - I've found that simply going FBL with the N5 makes it feel like a 6lbs helicopter in the air. This is related to drag as well as spinning mass. 16-20 grams of paddle multiplies itself in weight many times over when spinning at 2150 on a 450mm flybar. thanks for the reply matt. i appreciate the vast majority like the n5 and i don't blame them. there was 3 N5's in my own club and we all sold them. a damn shame IMO but none of us liked the weight. that is a very personal choice ofcourse. i should also add i'm not a 50 fan as anyone that knows me will tell you so not the end of the world.

i would love to try a fbl n5 and see what it is like-there is one locally which is flybar but i assume he will convert to fbl at some point. if so i'll happily have another go, the danger is liking it and i'm shelling out 400 notes again-DOH :-)

i'd be lying if i said i remember what blades i was using but they were probably sab red devils in either 600 or 620mm.

as always good to see the designer active on forums-excellent support.

Would i be right in saying the N5 is 55size machine due to being longer in the boom and meatier head. mine is nearly built going to try 600mm maniacs and v paddles is this a good choice because im a bit pitch happy?

You are correct, the N5 is more of a 55 size machine. Maybe I should have called it the N5.5 ?
It's been a long time since I've flown Maniac blades. I would first put them on a gram scale and see if they are around 125grams. If you are pitch happy you probably wont be happy with 600 size blades that weigh in the 140 gram range. Now on a flybarless N5, the 140 gram blades work perfectly!
The V-Paddles will work excellent, they are the same style and air foil as the Align 600 CF paddles.

Team Synergy was there in full force! We had a blast. It was very cool seeing most of the flight stations populated with N5's!

Nice to see you back on the forum Matt.
Like i said at the start of the thread, the first couple or 3 times i got to fly an N5 i was dissapointed, but that was more down to the engine was faulty but also my mate could not get enough cyclic travel without binding.
Now he has spend some time on it and managed to redo the head links to get an extra 5% on the swash mix and now a nice and powerfull YS56 and is a transformed beast, nothing like it was before.
This one uses align white paddles and Radix SB 600mm blades.
Unfortunatly we have had our overtime cut away at work as i was hoping to be able to get one of these in the next couple or 3 months but thats going to have to be put on hold for the forseeable future, but will continue to watch the n5's threads to see how people are getting on

If you need any help with the N5 just give me a shout, i have Radix 600SB's on mine with Align White Paddles and its insane!!... The Radix SB's really match it well and it seems a nice combination with the Align paddles but i am going to try a set of CYE Stubz on it shortly, going to see which i prefer out of the 393's and 3105 stubz.

I'm also going to be building a second N5 and making this one FBL with the new Synergy FBL Head and Radix 600 FBL blades so should be good to fly back to back with the Flybarred N5.

Haven't been on the forums for a while due to an operation, come to think of it, haven't flown for about 6 weeks - when will this weather change.

Anyway, is that a new autohub and oneway bearing assembly I've seen on a popular heli retailers website (fastlad) ??

I have just got one of these new auto-hubs and will be fittin it to my N5 hopefully this week. The new hub has zero slop and feels very smooth!! Everything feels very well machined and the fit and finish is excellent!

After polishing the sleeve and also cleaning out the one way bearing and then re-lubing with oil it has been flawless but I thought I would give the new hub a test do I can give a comparison! I will post once I get it installed and test and let you know how it goes!
