  • Synergy N5 opinions?

Did originally have my name down on one for there first batch release but changed my mind.
And after flying one a while back with a bad engine was not so impressed.
Anyway yesterday flew a freshly breathed on one of a friend of mines and all i can say was like chaulk and cheese compared to the first time i flew it, with all the rods readjusted to give more cyclic throws and an engine putting out lots of power is one of the best 50's i have flown, ever.
So the feelings have been that i did want to get either a 550 or 50 size this year as my thrash machine and don't want to break the vision 50 as this is really my boys machine.
Just wanted to see what people that have owned them for a while think of them, good and bad.

I liked mine a lot but I'm not in your league James

I put less than 2 gallons through before I had to sell it. If I hadn't needed the money it would still be sitting here

You want my opinion!!.....It's Simply Awesome!!!

My N5 is probably the best flying 50 class machine I've flown, even though technically it is part of the new breed of 55 class machines that is slightly larger than original 50 class machines and it can swing 620 blades.

I have mine setup with an OS55 and Hatori SAB55 and running Radix 600SB's with White align paddles and it is absolutely insane!! Smooth yet powerful and snappy!

The design is unmistakably Synergy!! Simple, yet functional and bullet proof!!

When I pre-ordered mine I was a little hesitant over the belt drive tail but after flying it I can say with 100% certainty that I cannot tell the difference!! It is without doubt the best belt driven heli I've ever flown!! The tail is absolutely rock solid, I've never had it jump or slip and I'd even say it performs better than some torque tube drives I've had.

My only negative of the N5 is the centre posts of the fan shroud, although a little tricky to fit and also remove during maintenance at a later date it is no real problem as they can be held with bent needle nose pliers. The way the fan shroud fits makes up for this as it can be fitted without having to bend and twist it or modify it.

I am going to be building a second N5 for 2011 and I'm going to try this one FBL!! But The Flybarred N5 head is in my opinion 'Perfect' i have set it to Settings suggested by Matt Botos and I find it smooth yet powerful and snappy on cyclic and pitch which suits me perfectly? I just fancy trying FBL.

My only modifications to my N5 and also the one I built for a friend was to swap the tail slider locking ring to a better quality one due to past experience with the N9, although the current star locking washers supplied with the N5 kits do look a better fit but I changed them just for safety. I also added M3x10mm button head bolts to the boom supports as per the N9.

My only 'issue' has been the auto hub locking up due to a tolerance issue withe the sleeve, this I sort by polishing the sleeve to reduce it's OD and also clean out the bearing of grease and and relive with light oil and socage it's been faultless.

I'm considering selling off my last remaining 90, The Aurora and just running two N5's as they are that much fun and suit me down to the ground.

I can only echo what others have said, I don't fly any sort of 3D yet so can't tell you of the advantages of flying the N5 for 3D.
It is a very smooth flying heli though thats for sure.

Jamiem's addition to Rossco's good post will sell it to you im sure .
Rossco considering selling an Aurora for an N5 can only say one thing...... well apart from crazy .

Don't know yet, might have to wait for a while until funds allow, and want to work with my vision 90 first.
                    We shall see

My N5 has been great. I've had the odd locking one way bearing (but i think this has been sorted now?), but apart from that it's been great. It's only had around 110 flights from new, but in that time there is no slop showing anywhere, the belt is still as new, the links are all still perfect, and the dampers feel like new. Personally I prefer it with Stubz paddles, but then I've always liked Stubz on a 50.

The build is very simple, and is actually quite innovative. Every single part has the required bolt, bearing etc pre-fitted loosely - theres no hunting through a parts bag for the right length bolt, or the right washers, its all there already. The frames go together very quickly, and are super stiff. The head is a work of art - just pull it apart and locktite. The tail is a nice simple design, with the vertical fin making one side of the gearbox. The belt is very very chunky, and "just works". I love the fact it has a belt, theres no gears to strip, no TT to induce vibes, no bearings to place wrongly, just pull it tight and go fly.

Why havnt I got more flights on mine? Laziness. I love flying my 90, and in the lead up to the champs last year I pretty much stopped flying the 50. Shortly after that we can't drive across our flying field to the pits, meaning we have to carry all our gear 150m. I inevitably end up just taking the bullet proof N9. I do plan to take it out again this weekend, as I've not flown it since the beggining of November when I night flew it.

You certainly wouldn't regret it - more and more people are adopting the model lately and I've not heard anyone moaning on here about it, quite the opposite in fact

All sounds good but there spares prices are a ripoff for a .50 size machine, more expensive than my velo 90, trex 700 on spares and the same as my aurora for the usual crash spares.

What can I say other than quality costs. Personally I'd rather have a machine that doesn't need the tail bolts replacing through fear of shearing and writing the machine off.

It's all very subjective anyway, when you are talking the difference of a couple of quid and then you look at the frame price difference, its easy to balance out.

You pay your money and make your choice, it would be very boring if we all flew the same machine!

The simplicity of the frame and low part count will make a bit of difference.

It wouldn't look good if we all started Getting into a handbag fight here so please don't get to carried away .

Of course you know I love mine!
If you do it, go for the FBL N5 kit, its unlike anything I've ever flown. Sort of a cross between a 50 and a 90. The other thing you get for your dollar is a lot of support. All of my distributors stand behind the Synergy product 100%.

                              Thanks!
