  • Elevator arm slippage

After a small knock a few months ago I'm being plagued by elevator arm slippage.

Reading Matt Botos' website it seems the remedy is to either flatten the grub screw or retap the hole to 4mm.

Anyone else done this or has alternative solutions?

i used a button head m3 bolt, it has to the a button head one else ur hit the lock collar, i think its called a button head, its the flatter head screw that tapers off, like a chocolate button lol

Whey I built my N5 and also a friends N5 I changed out the grub screws for flat head type grub screws, these give a better lock onto the surface area of the control shaft. You could also modify the existing grub screws with a dremel or needle file to flatten the ends, I'd probably recommend a needle file as a dremel can be quite aggressive.

I believe Matt was addressing the issue of the incorrect grub screws in the kits so future kits will have the flat head type fixings in the kits and also as spare parts.

I would probably just use the existing grub screw, take them out and with them on the end of hex drive, use a needle file to flatten the end.
      Thanks!

Okay dokay. Using a bit of 400 grit wet and dry and 5 minutes of time I have a nicely flattened grub screw and there certainly seems to be a far better 'grip'.

Unfortunately whilst sorting this out, i seem to have lost a tooth on my main gear

          Hello guys,

All new kits are coming with 4mm flat point set screws to secure the inner and outer elevator arms to the CCPM shaft. Hope this helps!

I also have new landing gear on the way..... wider!

          Thanks!

          Matt

Nice to hear that Synergy are responding to issues that have been found!

Will the new landing skids be an optional parts as i'm one of the few that actually like the standard N5 landing gear, nice and slim, really suits the N5.
              Happy Flying! Thanks - Dave

I think I'm the only one who thinks the stock skids are fine (used to fly a Vibe 50 and they are only about 15mm wider).

The only thing I find is that on initial spool up, kind of when the blades are straightening out exactly - the heli wobbles quite a bit on the ground, due to the narrow connection width of the frames on the skids.

On the elevators, I did what Rossco said, file them down to large flats - just make sure you get the ends as close to 90degs as possible.

I must admit, I prefer the original N5 skids also!!

Perfect match for the N5, keeps the profile narrow and they are nice and strong so you don't get any sagging of the skids.
                  Thanks!
