N5 and Align Super Starter compatibility

I don't know if it's just my kit, but whilst having my daily battle at starting my engine with my ropey starter, I was lent an Align Super Starter - but - I couldn't use the thing as the starter wand was too fat for my starter hex adptor.

Are others experiencing this?

I'm sure I remember reading something on Matts site about that when it first came out, think the tolerances are too tight on the hex coupler.

I had to use a Dremmel with a small stone on it to gently increase the size of the starter cup hole in my N5 to accept any of my 3 starter wands (which includes the align starter) all ok now.

cant say i have come across this, there is a few N5's in my area and some owners have Align starters and no issues with starting them.. Strange

There is a mention of this on Matt's website and also on the Synergy website in the N5 Hints & Tips section. Some of the hex couplers were found to be tight on some starter shafts, Matt does say to take a measurement with callipers and send the measurement to him. It's probably better to change out the hex adapter rather than try and grind it for a better fit as this could lead to you chewing up your start shaft.

I may have a spare adapter in my bag of bits, if you need it I'll find it out and send it you over if it helps you out any. I've never had this issue with the hex adapter on my N5 but it must have been noticed with a few adapters for Matt to make a note of it in the Hints & Tips.

Also, check the actual start shaft,if it's the original Align shaft I have seen a few with dodgy hex ends! Some have been oversized so they won't even fit in the coupler and some have been undersized causing the hex tip to spin in the hex adapter and chew both the tip and coupler.

I have the new hardened Align wand, and a Robbe starter shaft, and neither would fit my N5. As said, just a tickle with a grinder stone, and it is fine now.
