  • Anyone use a Header tank?

Bit of a dilema at the mo, whether to use a fuel magnet or header tank on the N5 - currently using a standard clunk.

The more natural answer is to use a fuel magnet, but does anyone run a header tank?

If so how did you mount one?

    Cheers in advance

    Daz.

No header on mine, just a fuel magnet which works a treat and is so far lasting very well

I have a fuel magnet on my N9 which seems to work ok but have a header tank with a Quick UK mounting kit fitted to my 700 which I have to say gives me more confidence than the fuel magnet.
Its just one of those things, as Jamie says his magnet works fine and has lasted ok as has mine (always keep the fuel tank full). The downside of a header tank is it's something else to brake off in a crash.

I've currently got an OS Bubbleless clunk in mine as my OMI Fuel Magnet foam perished on the field one weekend and i had no replacement foams so this was the only thing to hand and i've just left it in as it seems to be working well.

Never had an issue with the OMI Fuel Magnet, i use these in everything. They just take a little more care when used in a application where they are exposed to exhaust gases. I usually make sure the magnet is always wet with fuel.
        Thanks!

I dont think this is generally a specific N5 question.. more on what you prefer as the same really applies to all heli's.

If you decide the Header tank.. you can do what some people do and just stick it to the main tank.. but I brought the QuK header tank fitting kit http://www.fast-lad.co.uk/store/h5511_quick_header_tank_mounting_silver-p-4139.html and dremelled a new hole in the frame to mount it.

If you decide the Magnet route and If your not wanting to go the OMI route how about the new Lynx magnets http://www.fast-lad.co.uk/store/lynx_heli_inovations_moas_fuel_tank_clunk_lx0090-p-11386.html?

I just picked up a raptor tank and fitting kit for my TZ Frenzy, although its no N5 its the first time I have used a header tank im about to fit it now and I hope that it cures the leaning out of the engine while flying.

            will test on sunday

I have a "bubbleless" clunk in the main tank of my 600, and also use a header. i like the "comfort factor" of the header - the fuel in which I seldom actually use, as I land when the main tank is empty.

Sorry Mark, I havn't got a N5. Thats why I said in my original post its user choice and not Heli specific!

Having a look at the N5.. I've done some pics to see if it helps you guys.. from my original post, I said I dremelled new hole to mount the header using the QuK fitting kit instead of "sticking" the header to the main tank.

In Pic 1 & 2 Heres where I drilled a new hole in my T600 and used the mounting kit and a pic of a N5 marked with where it could go, if you fancied doing the same. In Pic 3, The hole could dremelled underneath the main tank as shown in the red circle and you have seperate spacers to get clearance you want

OS Bubble less clunk in my 700's

Was using magnets but lack of stock made me try these.

                    Wonderful product that doesn't perish.

I have one of the OS bubbleless clunk's on my N5, one in the main and i have a header tank too.
Have the header tank fitted into the lower bearing block rear hole using the Quick UK header tank stand off's, found this brought it inline with the carb the best.
                      Works a treat

Many thanks for the pictures guys, certainly seems that a header tank is doable, I think I may give this ago.
