  • Align DS610 burnout nearly ends in disaster

The N5 took a little tumble today as I was spooling up, as one of my cyclic 610s gave up. Fortunately I was at low revs, so no chicken dance. Had a good inspection and seems i'm one lucky boy.

Opened up the servo, and there was a strong burning smell.

There doesn't seem to be any undue resistance on the bell crank, so am assuming it was just one of those things...

How much flying had this 610 done? early failure? or random failure?
Is there any chance it had damamged gears from an earlier incident?

To be honest, these servos have been involved in 2 crashes in my former Raptor so it is quite possible that something had been damaged. However I still had 10 or so problem free flights in the N5 before, so who knows.

I chalking it up as a possible random failure. C'est la vie.

Heres a question - was the blown servo formerly on collective on your raptor?
The rappy collective servo has maybe three times the load of the aileron and elevator and might have had a harder time than the others.

Unfortunately I did not note which servo was where on the Raptor.
