  • Receiver choice

    Guys,

I'm thinking of simplifying my electronics setup (currently was going to be 2S lipo, reg, Ar7000 receiver and ATG, BLS253 cyclic).

Am thinking of 2S LiFe and Ar7100 or Ar7100R, but I see that the receiver requires 6-10 volt input.

A 2S LiFe runs at around 6.6V, is this enough to prevent receiver issues? (don't want to run direct 2S LiPo into the BLS253).

AR7100r would simplify your electrics and why not use a stepdown on the253?

Hadn't thought about that, can that be done on the cyclics? Can you recommend something which will step down from 8.4V?

Had thought the LiFe option looked great, because at 6.6V the cyclics would be fine (no worse than a fully charged NiCd 6.0V pack) - but am concerned about the input voltage required by the receiver of 6-10V?

            Hi David,

If you want to simplify the electronics installation then the Spektrum AR7100R is the way to go. I have this Rx on my N5, with Futaba BLS451's on cyclic on 7.4 Lipo Voltage.

Futaba have recently rated alot of their servos for use with 7.4v setups, including the BLS253 according to the PDF list.

You can fit a voltage regulator inbetween the Lipo Battery and the AR7100R so that the voltage to the cyclic servos will be at a regulated voltage (6.0v or 6.5v) and you can still utilise the other 5.1v regulated outputs for the gyro/throttle.

You can use the following pass through voltage regulators for use with the Spektrum AR7100R: Fast Lad Performance
            Thanks!

To all you guys - thank you so much, I have been debating this in my head for ages.

Now I know the servos are fine on direct 2S lipo, I will get the new receiver (have always fancied getting rid of the regulator).

Now decision time, get the AR7100R and dump the governor I have, or go with AR7100 and keep my ATG?

I have the Spektrum AR7100R in both my Synergy N5 and my Aurora and it works brilliantly!!

Very simple to set-up, as it works identical to a Model Avionics RevMAX, although due to the internal workings of the Rx where it utilises the 'Gear' channel for the RevLimit you have to set your switches up slightly different if you are using a DX7.

In the manual if you are using a DX7 it tells you to assign Gear to AUX2 and AUX2 to Gyro, now i found this to give me some issues and found that if i set Aux2 - Aux2 and Gear to Gear it allowed me to set it so that my 'Gear' switch controled my RevLimit and my Aux2 switch controlled my Gyro Rate's.

IF you decide to get the AR7100R and have any issues just drop me a PM.
