  • Balls!

    Just a quickie

I'm trying to free up my balls but it is a right arse keep popping links on and off with pliers that are too small for the job. Does anyone make a set that fit?

Are your balls too big or small, Phil?

      Use a ball link reamer

I think it's the correct sized pliers that Phil seeks?

I have made up a reamer as my balls are bigger than normal balls and neither of my reamers fit

My pliers won't pop the links off because they hit the balls instead of passing by them

Can ya not just take a needle file to the inner edges of the pliers you have, Phil, thus opening them up a bit? Or, if you don't have a suitable sized file, they may be able to be bent to the required gap?

Possibly but I was a bit wary of thinning the material too much and losing the strength!

You'd be taking a fair bit off each side I imagine. As for bending I had images of it breaking

                Phil,

These are the ones that work. Second ones down on the page called ball link lifters

                Ball Link Pliers

I had to ream my links which I used a hyper sizer because I had one, however you make one with the spare ball in the spares bag.
                Cheers Matt

File em down, I doubt you'll lose the strength.

I use a set of these pliers available from Robbe:Ball Link Pliers (1-S1360)

Perfect size for Synergy ball links!

I've not had to re-size the links on my N5 as they felt alot better than the links on the N9 when those were first released and I can rotate them easily with my finger so i have left them to wear in on their own.
                    Thanks!

                      Thanks Mattie

I've done the reamer so I'm good to go but was just getting hacked off trying to get the links off by hand all the time.

I'll drop into SMC later on and see if they have stock otherwise I may get the dremel and files out

Mine are all pretty stiff. I'd certainly not want to fly it with the tail like that

Anyone know of a correct size reamer and where it is available, Rob, do Midland have one the right size for the Synergy balls?

The hypersizer is the "correct" tool for the job, but the one i tried a while back was blunt as anything, and did nothing what so ever.

I made a reamer by drilling the handle of my glow plug driver, then gluing and screwing a spare ball in to it, then just nipping the edges with the jaws of a set of pliers. Works a treat
