  • N5 and CSM 720

Anybody put a CSM 720 in there N5?

Will it fit under the canopy on top of the servos without catching the wires on the inside of the canopy?

    Cheers

    Paul

I spoke to Nick (synergyn9) at the weekend and he went with a GY520 as the SL720 wouldn't fit easily under the canopy.

One day CSM will make a pretty gyro...... function before form and all that but now they actually physically do need to make the gyro smaller for function lol

Not that I'm about the bling or anything now where did they put that sparkly bling emoticons! diamonds.jpglaugh.gif

I am a recent convert to the 720, have fitted one to my Fury

But why oh why can they not update the case, if the case had fitted leads from the side I would of put one without a doubt upon my N5. But as it is I feel it would be too tight a fit with the leads sticking up as they do.

Also on my Fury the 720 is stuck out back, with its programming port upon to the elements whenever it rains.

Come on CSM, get with the times, please update the packaging on this great British product!

Totally agree Nick. I am too a convert.

I truly believe that if CSM made the unit smaller and marketed it over in the states a lot more they would be onto a winner.

It's a winner for me as I have room for the big unit currently, but as you guy's have found out, space is a virtue on most new models.

                  Don't think so Tim! :-D

I guessed it wouldn't fit under the canopy, so looks like I will be mounting out the back like my N9.

I spoke with Matt about a year ago and he said the rear gyro mount from the N9 will fit the N5 also, but I never liked that on the N9 as it sat the gyro quite high up on the frames. I ended up make my own mounting plate and frames to mount the gyro just above the boom mounted off the main frames, looks like I will be using the same method again!

Oh have to agree, I think CSM could bring alot more customers if they just 're-packaged' the current gyro.

                  Cheers

A first move would be to simply put a 90 degree header to bring the wires out the end instead of the top. Its the wire exit that is the main issue, not the actual case size.
Maybe time for them to re-lay the PCB as its no doubt economic to use smaller components now than when it was designed.

Flying leads attached to the gyro sound nice but are a backwards step IMHO. Who wants to have to send a gyro back for service just becuase the leads got damaged? and with the csm you can plug in just the length you need.

However for me function wins over form anyway. I'd cut a hole in a brand new canopy to fit a 720 if need be!

absolutely, the canopy is only going to get bust at some point .....well in my hands it will anyway.
