Excellent thanks Jamie - I just got a text from Squeeky Pete stating the same
I'll give it a try when I get back and hope its OK for me too.
I noticed on Matt Boto's website he's put an update on the plastic grips too.

    "
Plastic Main Blade Grips / Plastic Tail Blade Grips -

Both are discontinued! There were only 61 kits released with these plastic grips, if you have one them, throw them in the garbage! We would rather play it safe with metal main blade grips and tail blade grips."

Guess they did have issues with them

At least they have been honest about it, even though i got slatted a week or 2 ago about this very subject, and the N5 just looks so good with the metal upgrades, suits the fact it is the top class 50 out there.

Yer - I really dont care - I wanted to pay for the metal upgrades anyway, and they do look lovely . Just put the fan/clutch assembly onto the engine in my tea break at work

I think if there had been any problems/failures then we would have heard about it on runryder. As far as I know, it wa more of a commercial decision, ie everyone was fitting the metal bits anyway, so why pay to produce the plastic grips that won't get used. Climb outs machine that was flying at charmouth had the plastic grips and had no problems what so ever and flew very very well without any problems or failures in 10+ gallons of fuel.

Eithe way, I agree with James; the metal grips finish off the kit a treat, really looks like a top end machine now

the reason for it was there was a lot of issues with the n9 plastic tail grips (which btw i never had on my n9's).

            cheers

If they would have sold as many as Align sell then maybe you would see some reports but with 1 that climbout had and 60 odd that went out with those grips there will be or at least you would hope, very few problems that you will hear off.

And yes, who wants those bulky ugly plastic grips anyway

After seeing a few more N5's around, its just an amazing looking model! Cannot wait to get one! And the size of everything is awesome, no doubt a very strong built model that fly's superb! Synergy have made a winner in my opinion

I maidened mine this weekend and put a few tanks of light 3d through it today. Matt Botos's settings with 600SB's and white Align paddles made the cyclic FAR too slow for my liking. Will have a play around for next weekend and write my build and flight report opinions.

Haven't got my N5 yet, got a down payment with a local mate so waiting for the second batch (could be this week but not sure).

I think the fast cyclics are probably part geometry settings, but also in part due to the metal blade grips and relatively firm damping, lightish paddles will only increase this.

Maybe there are some slightly heavier paddles that could be recommended? Also is there a good source of information on what the different ball positions effect throughout the head - was a guide ever produced for the N9?

Will be interested to know what you settle on in the end Grant

Was good to meet you yesterday, shame I never got past a couple of hovers with mine. But going to look after my new YS56 and get it broken in nice and slow

All I've got to do now is keep the Simmonds family off my Fury, I actually checked the boot of my car to make sure it was still there, lol

Does anyone have an online explanation of what effects altering the ball link positions in the head will have? Squeeky pete has told me to move the seesaw ball in to help speed it up, but it would be nice to have a read up on what can make it even quicker.
Aileron roll wasnt too bad, still very slow, but elevator flips are increadibly slow with the recomended botos settings. I also need to see how much I can lower the swash by. The swash is hitting the pins with very little cyclic and can even get it to hit its own mixer arms.

                            Hey Grant,

Good to see you again yesterday mate. Cheers for the B test

Have a read of the head setup in the Aurora manual. It tells you all you need to know about these kind of heads

Wow, That Avant manuals excellent! I found the Synergy N5 manual very lacking in any sort of information (non-existant) and the images were'nt easy to follow due to being too dark in some cases.

Looks like I can either try moving the ball on the seesaw further into the head, or move the far right ball on the blade grip part furthest out. Any idea which one has the largest effect? I'll try them seperatly later in the week if i get chance.

One other thing people should do before flying their new N5 is to insert the stock tail blades up someone's *** and put some carbons on.
I do really like the N5 looks and buid quality, but those tail blades are an embarrassment. Even on its very first flight they had to be removed as the tail was a dog.
I would rather a good quality kit was sent without tail blades than a set that are barely up to hovering standards.

Carbon tail blades transformed the tail instantly
