  • n5c torque tube conversion

    Hi

Just fitted n5c torque tube conversion and the tail blades now rotateclockwise !
This is correct according to the manual !
But the servo direction also changes and the gyro sensing !!

I assume I reverse these back to normal direction ? is this correct ?

Anybody done this conversion yet ? and can advise ?

    Cheers Tom !!

I did the conversion a few weeks ago. I had to reverse the direction in the Spartan and that was it. Just adjust so it all works in the correct sense. The tail grips need flipping to maintain leading edge control whilst rotating clockwise.

      Hi Tom,

As above really, with the TT conversion for the N5/N5C all that is required is to make sure you flip the tail rotor grips to ensure you maintain leading edge control as the tail rotor will now spin clockwise as apposed to anticlockwise. Check gyro direction and compensation and adjust if necessary, i would treat as a new tail setup and make sure you have all travels and torque offsets set correctly.

      Hope this helps,
      Thanks!

Still cant get my head round it Just looks wrong !
The set up I have is as per a normal anticlock wise rotation ?
from behind the heli (tail towards me ) I give left stick and the blade turns left ,(as per normal)
you turn the heli left and the blades turn right ? (opposite from nose )
That is how I normally set them up ! but just looks wrong with blades pointing the other way !!
Also what way do you put the compensation on the blades to start with (blade front edge pointing left or right )

        HELP !!!

Firstly did you flip the grips so leading edge control in new direction? As they spin the opposite way you need to pop the balls on the grips, remove a ball and rotate them so they are the other way around, now reattach the ball and links. Blades should be leading edge, fat part on the side with the ball, we call this leading edge control. If your using rail tails the motif on the blades now can't be seen as its facing the boom.

Imagine leading edge of the blade as the direction of travel so when you apply left rudder watch the leading edge of the tail blades. They will travel in that direction so for example if its tail left then nose to the right. Just adjust so its correct. Shouldn't be any different to any other model in how you approach the setup, don't worry about what you had worry about what you need to get it right :-)

Just out of curiosity tom ,why did you change to torque tube bud? reason i ask is i have 2 n5,s which are both running standard belt drives which i have never had any problems with whatsoever, the n5 flys on rails as standard lol what positives are you hoping to get from the t/t?only thing i can see is youll get a little less strain/drag on the drivetrain

In My opinon drive belts are old hat (my opinion) I just find that with a TT set up
everything is a lot smoother as you say no strain anywhere ?
I also find that the helis I have with TT auto better , I dont seem to loose head speed
                so quick ??
Might just be me having the belt to tight ? But I just feel that TT is a more refined
mecanical solution to driving the tail (my opinion once again )

                Cheers Tom !!
