  • E7 motor/packs

what motor/packs are people using in their E7's?

i'm seriously debating getting one but not sure on above choices.

also is there room to run a sep RX pack?

    cheers

At the moment I have mine in E6 configuration running the Hacker Turnado 580kv motor with 2X OptiPower 4300 man 5S packs.

I'm going to convert this machine shortly to E7 configuration and I'm going to stick with the Hacker motors but go for the 470kv version. I will also stick with the OptiPower packs at 4300mah but I will go for 6S asks to give me 12S.

On my E6 I run a separate Rx LiPo and regulator, as I like to ave the flight system separate to the power system. I have the Rx LiPo at the front under the ESC plate where some actually mount the BEC if they are using them. There is plenty of room for electronics on the E6/7.

    Hope this helps
    Thanks!

i was planning on getting the new scorpion SBEC esc but i have a morbid fear of bec's-nasty bits of work that take no prisoners-only expensive servos :-)

what rx lipo fits? i'm running all outrage BLS servos so i don't need reg.

      cheers

Having an ESC with a built in BEC would definitely make for a nice clean installation but I like having the RX flight system seperate to the power system is a better option just for safety.

On mine I'm using the OptiPower 2150ah 2S RX Lipo and a Flighttech 8A reg at the moment buT I'm planning on Re-Jigging as the LiPo is only slightly too long so doesn't sit in between the spacers/supports for the ESC plate. I'm going to replace with a 1900mah Thunder power 2S pack as this is more square.

I use a Kontronik 700-45 and its an animal of an E7. I'm sure I remember someone saying the optimal motor kv for the E7 gearing is 410kv? I not tached mine yet but running with the KT80 I reckon at 70% I'm around 1800. Running 6s 5000's and even with these I have to have them right out the front to balance properly so bear this in mind. They literally touch the nose of the canopy when I put it on but if I push them in any further then it wont balance and they can go back a long way. But I'm not running a separate flight pack and all the other bits that go with it so this would help get some weight up front.

well my E7 is in the post but i still don't know what packs to run, so many differing opinions on this one.

it will be optipower 4300 or 5000 packs is what i have narrowed it down to.

            cheers

You might like it on 43's but it's too light for me even tho I do have the odd flight with them I do defo prefer the 5000's.

I'm sure you have someone at the club that could lend you 2 to try?

I think you will like this build and enjoy flying it just as much

I would test with someone else's packs if you can as it changes alot on the model weight an performance. A few people have said the scorpion LE is too powerfull for the E7 so I would recommend the pyro 700-45 as its super efficient and stays cool with great power.

Oh damn, ok, weights are not that different, I can send you some 5000 and 4000 flight powers if you like so you can get a good idea.
My opti's are not 5000 but preproduction 5300's which have 2 balance plugs per pack so a bit of a mash to charge but the FP's I have will give you a very good idea of which way you will want to go.

Send me your addy and as long as they back in a couple of weeks then all good

I have been running he Scorpion 5020-450 with Optipower 12s4300 which gives great performance and decent flight times. This was using a Kontronik 80HV with 14th pinion, which at 70% throttle gave about 2250 headspeed. A smaller pinion would be better for lower headspeeds.

The 80HV seems to be right on the limit since I have had a stop on my twice last Sunday due to over current. It was running fine on the 80HV with medium hard 3D, but I pushed it a bit harder this weekend, fortunately no damage except a cracked skid.

I have now changed over to the Scorpion 130HV ESC with no BEC to try this. I have replaced the backup nicad for the Kontronik BEC with a 2s Lipo and regulator so it may have gained a bit of weight. I would like to change to HV servos all round to lose the regulators though.

the heli should be here tomorrow i guess, new scorp 130amp esc is here, going to use outrage HV brushless servos all round, 4035 motor and i'll test the packs Ben has kindly loaned me before deciding which size to go for.

                          cheers
