  • which one of these motors for e7

I have narrowed it down to 2 motors
    HK-5020-450 Scorpion Brushless Motor 450kv
First is the Scorpian 5020-450, i have many Scorpian motor and i know they work great, iam use to oiling them so thats not issue.
    Hacker HACA50-12L
Second choice is the hacker a50-12l, i know very little about this motor apart from its whats being reccommended on helifreak, its cheaper but never run one before.

    Which motor and why?

I believe you need a Hacker Turnado version for a heli. Also, E7/E6 needs a long shaft motor.

I am not sure the 5020 will fit in between the frames. I read somewhere it has 61mm clearance, which only gives 0.5mm either side!

The scorpion motors I am trying to choose between are the 4035-500 HK3 or the 4525-520 LE

im getting a E7 soon and been asking around and the 4525-520 LE wont be the right motor for this gear ratio because you will have to govern the motor down alot!

Been told the 450 will be the right one though

i know Matt at midlands has been doing some research today and chatting to Ade at climbout, and they have came up with the Scorpian 5020-450 as the motor needed, checked that it defo fit so this is now en-route to me.

Hi Mate, that motor sounds ok to me was looking at it myself today looks like its got alot of torque so will be mental in the e7, as far as head speed it will be perfect for swinging 690 blades, and as you can run one of the stock pinions their will be a good amount of teath in contact with the main gear makeing it less of a chance to strip.
I was also trying to find out how long the shaft was as it needs to be long enough to reach the second support but if Matt and Ade has said its the one then it will be fine.
Let me know how it goes with that motor as I might put one in mine when I get it.

It looks like for European headspeeds (!) 450kV is about right. Even with the 14tooth pinion this will be a fairly high headspeed. I will be using a Jive 80HV with heatsink. According the MrMel this gives:

                          Result for calculation:
Estimated lowest voltage during flight: 40,92
Lowest RPM (due to voltage and efficiency) : 2000

                          Throttle 60%: 1994
                          Throttle 65%: 2057
                          Throttle 70%: 2119
                          Throttle 75%: 2181
                          Throttle 80%: 2244
                          Throttle 85%: 2306
                          Throttle 90%: 2368
                          Throttle 90%: 2431

I have been speaking with Ade about this aswell, he has checked that the 5020-450 will fit between the frames on my kit. It will - just - so I should be receiving my E7, Scorpion 5020-450 and Spin 690 FBL tomorrow Let's hope the Indian summer starts up again...
