• What battery for 420

Hi all,

Ive recently bought my first Goblin and went for the 420, just wondering what batteries you guys are using? I’d quite like to use Optipower brand but I’m open to suggestions, my budget is quite tight so I want to make sure I buy the right battery. I won’t be flying the heli hard so don’t need masses of power.

I use 6S 2200mAh 45C Turnigy Nanotech in mine and they perform really well at a good price.

Don't go smaller the 2200mAh because the 420 tends toward tail heaviness, i had to stick a lump of lead in the nose to get mine to balance.

That’s a good shout, I hadn’t thought about the Turnigy Nanotechs, they are good value for money. I had been looking at this battery https://www.align-trex.co.uk/22-2v-6s-2700mah-30c-optipower-opr27006s.html but not sure if it will be a bit tight.

I use Opti 1800 50c in mine, because I had 6 from my 380. But as Steve said the 420 is tail heavy with a smaller pack.
I added I think around 60g to the front of my frames to get it to cg properly but that is less then the increase in weight from the next size up Opti Lipo. I havnt tried them but the 2700 is around 150 grams heavier than the 1800 so mine still flies pretty light in comparison.
I have really wide chord blades too so I'm pretty sure I fly less headspeed with mine than most which hopefully gives me a small amount of flight time back

I've been using Gensace 2700 packs in my 380 KSE. They fit perfectly on the tray and flight times are great. Doesn't feel heavy in the air either and should be ideal for a 420.

Thanks all for your replies, some of the batteries I’ve got my eye on are out of stock at various places at the moment so guess I’ll just have to wait :-(

Merry Christmas to you all
