I'm not sure there's really a reason why your 450L should fly any worse than a Goblin 380. DS95 swash servos were a massive improvement on my 450 Pro.
Maybe you've got a gap for a Goblin 500..?Yes, it's th@ tw@ Scallyb@...

Bit of an open question, who much does it cost on average to get one fitted out ready to fly, without TX and lipo?
…. Just need a quote for my bank manager!

Smudgy, this gives you a fair idea, this is taken from the other 380 thread, some of the kit I already have, so depending on what gear you want to go in the 380 determines budget. Think you can get a Kbar for around £20 from eBay, use rcferret to see who's got stock and at what price would be my advice;

Just looked at my invoice and they were £77.77 from hk for all 4 servos, found rchero cheapest for sats but others will pricematch. I'm guessing this is too new for any store to do a discount if you get some kind of a combo deal? But it wouldn't hurt to ask as there is still stock about from the first batch.Last edited by NiceBlades; 28-01-2015, 12:42 PM.[/SIGPIC]Goblin 700 vbar blueline, spektrum Hv servos|Goblin 570 Red/Yellow, mini vbar pro, BK's|Goblin 500 red, mini vbar pro, scorpion 4020 1100kv, jive 100+,BK's |Goblin 380, xnova 2820, mini vbar, yge 90, quick connect|Trex 450 pro 7200bx & RJX fbl head|130x|ncpx|DX9| BMFA Member|

spot on, you could fit it out on a budget with hobbyking gear, specs are good too so you wouldnt be disappointed. yep 80 esc aint bad either but i'd suggest running a external bec.Paz

So maybe around £600 excluding lipos with that setup. Still quite pricey! Unless you have some of the bits already of course.
those servos are great value, and pretty much the same specs as the very very pricy ones they are cloning, mks or whatever they are. I would buy them with no hesitation. So many good reviews.Spektrum IX12

Question for all you guys in the know about the setup of this Goblin. I see Austenrover runs a tareq motor on a 21 tooth pinion at 3300hs for 3 mins on a turnigy 40c 1800 lipo and this is governed. My question is if I got a 23 tooth pinion on exactly the same setup and set iu1 to run at 3300 max would I get a longer flight time given that the motor is now working less to achieve its goal and thus pulling less amps? Or is there other factors I haven't thought about that makes this not such a good idea and I should look at other motors? Iu2 would be set at hs greater than 3300 if I thought it was necessary, it's nice to have reserve power in the tank.[/SIGPIC]Goblin 700 vbar blueline, spektrum Hv servos|Goblin 570 Red/Yellow, mini vbar pro, BK's|Goblin 500 red, mini vbar pro, scorpion 4020 1100kv, jive 100+,BK's |Goblin 380, xnova 2820, mini vbar, yge 90, quick connect|Trex 450 pro 7200bx & RJX fbl head|130x|ncpx|DX9| BMFA Member|

Whether you'd get a longer fight time by using a 23T pinion, depends on efficiency. Spinning the blades at X rpm needs a certain amount of energy. How that gets from the batteries, through the ESC and motor to the gear train will differ slightly between the two methods, but the one that will give the best flight time will be which ever is more efficient.
Now, I'm pretty sure that esc and brushless motors are most efficient when they're running flat out, so the 21T should be closer to the sweet spot. However, I'd wager that if you ran the 23T on the same motor, at the same head speed, there'd be little difference in flight time between the two pinions.Current fleet: Goblin Thunder Sport (700), Trex 700L, Logo 600, Specter 700, Henseleit TDR, V-Baaa control.
Next heli: I have pretty much everything I want. Maybe I'll upgrade some electronics or something.

So would be better off getting the xnova 2820 and gearing accordingly, or run a greater capacity lipo with tareq edition as I believe the xnova's run at about 90% efficiency.[/SIGPIC]Goblin 700 vbar blueline, spektrum Hv servos|Goblin 570 Red/Yellow, mini vbar pro, BK's|Goblin 500 red, mini vbar pro, scorpion 4020 1100kv, jive 100+,BK's |Goblin 380, xnova 2820, mini vbar, yge 90, quick connect|Trex 450 pro 7200bx & RJX fbl head|130x|ncpx|DX9| BMFA Member|

There is more to it than motor efficiency, so just looking at the efficiency rating of the motor won't really help. This figure is what percent the motor actually uses and isn't lost to inductance/resistance. You want to find the sweet spot where the motor is drawing consistently low amps, and not peaking when you're just flying around. Obviously this depends on flying style, as anything that loads up the head will draw more amps.
As you up the gear ratio the motor is having to work harder to attain that headspeed (spinning fewer times for the same speed), thus inducing massive loads on the motor. If the argument you pose (bigger pinion for same headspeed) where true then we would all be running massive pinions to reach our target headspeed... and having long flights!
Really you need to experiment with different pinions and use a data logger to find the perfect setup. Chances are SAB have done this already so i'd just follow their recommended setups.Phil
