  • RJX gasser need HELP !!!!!

Hi all, I have just got myself an RJX 26cc gasser and having a problem ( to say the least) starting it I have got a spark fuel and very good compresion and after spending 2 long days trying iam at my witts end.
I have now got the engine out and in bits and after looking at the ign pick up and the magnet on the cooling fan it looks to me as they dont meet any where near TDC infact its about 15 degrees before.
    Is this the norm.
    so things that are fine
    1/ spark
2/ fuel ( carb and fuel lines cleaned) needles reset
    3/ good compresion
4/spark plug geeting wet with fuel

    ANY help would be appreciated
    Thanks Ian

    Hi Ian
Does your carb have an inbuilt Choke on it? I know certain models of walbro carbs do have them. Your Choke should be full open to start your motor, it's only used to help prime the motor.
The carbs also have a very tight run or stop point you may need more trim to fire it up.

      Hi thanks for your help.
I have tried with or withoutnot the choke to start and also had the throttle in every position.
      I will take your advise.
      Cheers Ian

        New or secondhand gasser?
I've not had to take one apart further than taking the pot off for a decoke on one...there are youtube vids of zenoah dissasemblies..
Most of my past reading and personal experience suggests that poor starting is either the plug lead grounding/arcing to the frame, old fuel, blocked carb breather hole (or badly orientated gasket/manifold), carb itself sludged(and old carbs cleaned with carb cleaner sometimes just softens the sludge and blocks it worse), air leaks - fuel pipe, clunk, carb gaskets, crank seals and crank bearings, or even a plugged muffler.
Where i;ve had any problems i usually start by swapping all fuel lines for fresh genuine tygon and putting a new carb on (a 644 used to cost under £40). If the new carb works then try the old one back on, clean or service etc - in other words i keep a new carb around as a quick way of proving eliminating that issue..if makes no difference then rinse and put the new carb back in store for the next trouble shooting time..dirty screens being the most common carb issue secially if using a felt clunk..pick out the round screen and cook with a lighter, flush and then pop back in. Next most common carb issues include perished bulbs and even heard of broken needle tips. But carb service kits cost around £12-15 and that saving over a new carb is hardly worth it for the aggro...
Old fuel can be a problem too.

i had the very same issue with an rjx to the extent that it was eating start couplers and owb's trying to start it, i removed the key from the shaft and set it to tdc refitted fan using green locktight(bearing compound) and was good to go.
