Black Rave Ballistic FSO Build

Almost a month since it arrived I've now found the time to start the build of my Ballistic. Decided to put Outrage servos on her as they have good reviews and the one I have on the Fusion tail has given my zero trouble so far.

Just thought I 'd share some build picks with you. Fairly easy build so far no major issues. All the parts are bagged in steps in line with the manual. The manual is very good looking and the use of colour to highlight key parts during build steps is a very good idea. Only gripe is that the manual doesn't match the FSO kit 100% so you do have to use your nogging. Some of the steps have already been done for you also so that's a little less to do.

Some more work done on the Ballistic. I've put the swash, tail & head together which was a more work than I expected. Trying to get the feathering shaft through the head was a nightmare it's so tight. Never had this with the rest of my helis. I persisted and got it there in the end. The other issue is that the anti-rotation bracket is very tight, opps! Didn't read the note on the bottom of page 14 that says get a file on it if it's tight. So not a bad evenings work and the tail boom next.

looking good, did you do the spindle mod to increase dampener life? It was recommended to me by a couple of pros that reckon the dampeners dont last more than 5 flights if you dont do it

I've not done the spindle mod on my Raves and the dampeners seem to be holding up ok. Guess I'm not giving them enough stick then

I'll be honest, I didn't know about the mod so haven't done it. I've just read a thread about it and it seems that it's more of a 'hard 3D' mod and as i'm not really that level yet I'll keep an eye on the dampeners and if I do have to rebuild the head I'll probably do the mod anyway. Thanks for the heads up thou.

I haven't had any problems with dampers either , but then again I don't fly like an epileptic on lsd, :-)

I have spoken To Stefan on this he does modify his as at the very extreems he can fly at the dampers may wear .

Me I wouldnt bother In fact after a year flying my ENV Nitro the dampers are just requiring replacment .

More progress made on the build over the last few days...

Tailboom built last night. Did have issues with a backlash and the whole thing was tight as hell. Turned to the forums and found the cause and cure. This tail gear backlash. Rave env 90. - HeliFreak thread was the key, followed sjsamuel suggestion and bingo smooth as the proverbial baby bottom. (Tony, you created the thread i assume?)

Looks tasty, the tail grips/hub looks the same as my 7hv which IMO aren't nice so I changed to quickuk.

I have done steffen's feathering shaft mod and I will tell you to do it ASAP because my Rave would have definitely boom struck if I didn't.

Wrap 1-2mm of insulation tape around the CENTRE of the feathering shaft, this removes A LOT of play in the head. Mine is rock solid now . Let me know how you get on.

Nice. Everything is black and white at distance. I wouldn't worry about it.
