  • Rave env flybarless with beastx

    Hi All,

Been flying my ENV flybarless a while now with my BeastX and I am really liking this combination. It is the favourite in my fleet and the nicest heli I have flown. Great performance, smooth and so easy to maintain and repair

Thought I would post this as a heads up for anyone thinking about putting a Beast X on their ENV.

You need to drop the throw as the ENV set up is designed with the TOTALG in mind and has too much throw to get a blue light on the BeastX at 6 degrees.

To do this I use 2 shorter balls on the swashplate Quick Uk part no QUK-HP01 and the Quick Uk links on these balls drilled out to accept the NextD 2.5mm links on the shorter ball ends.

Also use the inner throw on the bellcranks.

    Cheers

    Hi Sticky Stick
I just setting up my Rave ENV with a BeastX and I've been having trouble getting the blue light at 6 degrees as you've suggested.

Please would you be able to email me a couple of photos of how you have changed the linkage balls on your swashplate ??

    My home email is garry.bagridge@btinternet.com

    Thanks

you can use 700 rex flybarless links and balls on the bottom (swash plate end) no drilling just fit straight on to the rave rods

          Hey guys,

Sorry but unable to upload pics at the moment but will do when I can if it helps you.

It more straight forward than you imagine.

The inner part of the ENV's swash which connect to the blades have quite long balls as standard. What you are doing is removing the NextD balls and replacing them wih shorter balls so reducing the amount of throw the swashplate outputs for a given angle input from the servos.

Align 700 balls and links work. I just personally prefer the Quick U.K balls and links.

You need to do this mod to achieve the blue light at 6 degrees.

What I will also add is that you keep the NextD balls that attached to the swashdriver its only the ones that drive the baldes that are changed..

By swapping the Swash balls over to the short Quick UK ones, is it really neccessary to change the ball links as well ?? Will the Next D (Rave) ones not work ??

I may be having a blonde moment here but,........ why not just move the ball links on the bellcranks on to the inner holes to reduce the throw ???
or will that reduce the pitch range to, there is plenty of pitch available so that should be ok.

I love my rave flybarless I use Total G but I have flown beast X and its very good.

                    Good luck X Rachel

You can resize the NextD links for the Quick Uk Balls but I would not recommend it.

For the sake of of just a couple of £ I would buy the Quick lnks. These are properly sized for the balls out of the packet, delrin and are quality links. Why risk popping a link in flight for a couple of £?

You just need to drill the rod hole out to 2.5mm to accept the Next D rods. You keep a Next D link on the end that goes onto the blade grip as this is a NextD ball.

You move the links in on the bellcranks but there is still too much throw for the BeastX. The Rave is designed around the TotalG system which likes more throw in its set up.

This mod is necessary to bring the throw within limits to achieve a blue light which indicates optimal throw in one of the BeastX set up menus.

There is still more than enough pitch and the servos have better resolution.

Could you please tell us the length between balls on your servos? I used smaller (trex ) balls on the swash, and the inner holes on my JR disks but could not get the blue light. So I just fitted some other JR arms with the balls at around 22.3m apart and now the links bind on the servos. WHile the aileron and pitch servos can have the balls on the outside, I cant do this on the elevator servo.

So I'm at a bit of a loss now. Unless I put the disks back on and lie to the beastx about what is 6Degrees for the blue light!!
                          Thanks
                          Cliff
Edit... I've gone for the cheat.. fitted the old JR wheels again and pressed "next" after telling it 7 degrees was 6... if that makes sense..
I did a similar thing with my Protos and it flies great on the BX...
Annoyingly its forecast snow and 22mph winds tomorrow so not ideal for setup... Will have to wait until Thurs

Flown 7 times now with BeastX and it flies GREAT. I have so much more confidence with it now.
Its very predictable and smooth. Hangs in there air well too. I seem to have ages to think about what I'm doing.

So very glad I made the move.

I switched to beast x on my FBL Rave from Total G mainly cos I wanted a system I can tweak at the field without a laptop or g view and also because the total G was very unstable on the deck and autos and I like to spoolup in IU using soft start and it used to spaz out and almost tipped a few times.
The beast x flies nice for me and doesnt seem to mind the cyclics being moved whilst on the ground either
