    • No No Rachel, invite toy boy Brian round for supper, then put him in JACKS cage then in the morning put a choker coller on him with lead and take to flying field, and dont let him go untill satisfied?????????,.
Surely you must go to the 3D masters next year and meet up with your two mates now.Remember Mark Christy is part of the team and there to help you also, and like Curtis&Lover Boy he is a Gentleman, good luck with the flying.

      • Almost ready to Fly

Hi everyone I have "Dave the Rave " almost ready to fly

just a few snags to sort out so It's been another cry for help to Brian At CYE, (sorry Brian I know I am not that tecnical but wait until you try my cakes )

I am also going to post my issues here (no only the heli ones counciling sorted the rest )

First I am using my DXS 9 tx's gyro menu which means I have to use the rudder dual rate switch to swiths between rate mode and heading hold (yuck!) as the switch cannot be reassigned to the gear switch, I think thats a JR thing.

secondly I have no Idea what to set the gyro gain Tx values to (eg 30% on a quark ) ?

Thirdly I have noticed whilst setting the pitch I checked the cyclics and for some odd reason I have 7 degrees forward & only 5 degrees back ??? maybe I mucked up setting the endpoints so I will have to go back and check.

I also noticed that when doing the "Tilt test " that the roll seems much more sensitive that the elevator, or "Flip" as the Americans call it

I have 14 degrees of easilly usable collective and could up the swash mix to get more if required so that should please all of the 3D gods out there.

And lastly I am struggling to get the switchglow to work basically you have 2 spare outputs from the Total G which you can use to switch anything such as retracts , night lights etc, it's a bit odd as you cant take power from these outputs just switched supplies so I will be taking power from the socket that the programing lead goes in to.

If anyone can help with this please feel free to add a comment

I best do some work now , you know the thing we do to buy helicopters but before I go here are some pic's and observations of the Rave Env next to Rexy my 700 LE (pink edition)

The Rave has a bigger canopy , is longer in the boom by about 25 mm has a slightly lower blade spindle height (flybarless) and has better support on the tail pitch ring thingy ?

Oh and a big plus ,..... drop the rear frame stiffener out and in seconds the Tank is out !!!!! Whoot Whoot eat your heart out Align !

        Bye for now

You'll find you don't need to take the tank out as often on the Rave. Mine hasn't leaked so far, and I've put 5 tanks through it, unlike the 700 which leaked all the time until I put a washer and bolt through the bung and crimped the bung.

When's the first flight? I maidened my FB ENV last night and liked how stable it was. Just waiting for the weekend now to give it a bit more stick

                        • Hot to Trot

Ok all it's Time too fly

"Dave the Rave" is ready to go, whoot whoot!!!!!!

Aprehension levels are set to high, The level of pinkness is stratospheric (I cant spell that can I)!

I will be going flying tomorrow at my club (stafford heli club) for the test flight .

I am now so confused by the lack of a flybar and the complex silver box thingy that replaces me (which better be dam good ) ,that I can't even work out my tail gyro sense
the Total G is spot on I hope, but it does some dam strange things like tilt the swash rearwards on its own somtimes ?!!!!! why? I have no idea.

So off to stafford tomorrow where the level of flybarless knowledge is fab .

                          wish me luck

                              • Testflight and bad news

well the title sort of sums it up but you will want a blow by blow account so here you go.

I arrived at the field on Sunday to a very nice day , not flat calm but not too windy

Roger the cluub expert and font of all knowledge checked Dave (the Rave ) over and I carried out the tilt test and all was wel, so a quick fuel up and the OS 91hz burst in to life as if it had never been stood. I love OS engines they just work

So sitting on the patch I throttled up being very carefull not to touch the cyclics ,.... Lift off
Good headspeed ,1800 or so, perfect tracking and as smooth as glass , not a hint of vibration, the Rave really showed its class.

Not this is the bit where I tell you It was rock stable and as resopnsive as a gazell on speed , No it wasn't , It was vague and sat in a hover with the taill slowly bobbing up & down, but still it was flying.

so I landed and throttled back very gently , again not touching the cyclics.
As soona as I got to 1/2 stick BANG the model just flipped to the right as fast as lightening, the headspeed was low but the damage was done , Radix Blades, boom, shafts, and worst of all the heartbrake of shattered pride,......

I have no idea what happened on examination the swashplate was level, shocked wasn't the word,......

I have spoken to Brian at CYE and he thinks it was caused by "flybared pilot reactions" in otherwords an input the heli couldn't follow as it was on the ground so it puts in more and more cyclic to counter the lack of responce.

I thought long and hard about this one but I am far from rich and cannot afford the crash that just happened so I am afraid my flybarless dream is on hold, I am setting the heli up as a flybared model and I will then return it flybarless later.

I the meantime I have lent the Total G to a good friend and clubmate "Pulsar" who is fitting it to his 500 ESP .

The Rave will fly !!!!! very soon and I will keep you all advised.

                                'S X Rachel
