  • nodding help please

Hi all, sorry it's not an ENV, but a fellow flyer is having trouble with his 450 rave. He bought it a little while ago, can't remember where from. It was sold as unflown and to be honest, looking at it, it looks brand new. Anyway, he has tried all sorts of different headspeeds, looser blades, tighter blades, copying another friends' rave 450 settings and swash mix, but still it has a nod. It seems to be better when it's moving around, albeit slowly, but as soon as he stops it, it nods by at least an inch or so??

There is no undue slop in the flybar assembly, or any of the linkages. He fitted new servos from new. Standard rave mains and tails. I have to honest, I didn't ask what his headspeed was, but it was the same as Tim's, which flies faultlessly??
Any ideas or suggestions would be gratefully recieved.
    Cheers,
    Andy

There are lots of things that could cause a nod so it's really hard to say. The first thing would be making sure everything is setup properly, flybar is balanced, blades balance, tracking is in, no bent mian or feathering shaft. Tailrotor is smooth, no problems with gear mesh at the motor or the tail etc. all the usual mechanical stuff.

If it was FBL then the swash gain could be too high. With flybarred heads a nod is usually due to very hard dampers and a low headspeed.

        Thanks Sheryl,

He is pretty fastidious with his builds and maintenance, but things can and do get missed I guess. Mainshaft etc is all good, but I'll ask him to check feathering shaft when he changes the dampeners! Not knowing the heli, I wonder if it has the stepped spacers between the blade grips and dampeners, like my gaui had?? Easier to change compression with them fitted different ways.

Anyway, thanks for the pointers so far, I will post any findings and high 5's as we go

        Cheers,
