Help Rave on 3S setup..

I'm guessing it could be something to do with the esc.. Though I have used the scorpion 60a on other 450s with scorpion motors no problem. I have put the timing on Auto after I had it set at 20deg and still no joy.

I'm pretty sure that the lipos are ok. I have a variety.. some older some newer, Rockamps, Loong Max Tipples etc.. they are plenty of power in my other 450 helis.

Although the heli is lacking power.. it does track beautifully, and I am pretty determined to get to the bottom of it.. I may swap out the esc for the Scorpion 55a which I have.

It's a bit on hold at the moment, as I managed to get a bit close to the ground on a flip, and knocked out the tail bevel gears

Mine's running 3s (rockamp) 13t 325 blades 55a scorpion 6 motor, plenty of power no bogging. I did try a 60a and have yet got it running as well as the 55a. Good luck! It's currently my fav heli

Well... Have got it all together again, and running 325mm blades on it..

Power is just not up with my 450 sport. The collective punch on the sport is what I really want the Rave to be like. The Rave is a lot less punchy, and my flying I will get not even 4 minutes.. also the Rave seems to be taking alot out of the lipos in mah and the temp of the pack after the flight also tells me that it is really working the packs.

Are you saying the 55a esc ran better than the 60a scorpion?

If so.. looks like I will have to swap out the 60 for the 55..

Well.. I've pretty much exhausted every idea. I've swapped over the 60a esc for the scorpion 55, and it really is pretty much the same.

I'm sure the motors which i have tried are fine, as they have been in my Beam, and a furion that I had. So I have tried the -8 and also -6. The -6 I presume should give the most power with 14T pinion, the 325mm blades, Rockamps 2200 combination. Duration wise probably 3min 50sec at most.

Answer to Weight wise... it seems to be 75gr heavier than my sport..

Thinking to put the -8 back in to get better duration, but think the performance will not match the -6?

I am not really wanting to go 4s.. but it maybe my only option, as it would seem I want a bit more pop in it, and also I want at least 4min 30sec.

Well it looks like you have tried everything Andy, It looks like 4s is the way to go to get the performance, from what I have read it is a beast on the set up you have with a 4s battery and the 14t pinion

Scorpion 60 didn't get overly hot that I worried about. Was hotter than usual, but put it down to the -6 motor in it.

What pinion are you using on your -8 at the moment? and are you finding that it is unboggable in moves? what are your flight times like? and is the throttle 100% flat?

Used the 13t on the -8 at 90% on the 325 SAB red devils with no real problems but then my flying style may not be as aggressive as yours

I have just been trying a new set of 350 blades with the 12t pinion to try slow f3c style maneouvres and so far I am really impressed with its stability

I am going to swap the motors again one more time for the -8 to try and get a better duration.. I trust it will and see if I can get reasonable performance while not stressing the packs out.. which it is doing at the moment.

Also.. I hear the -8, I can go 4s with a change of pinion aswell, so may go 4s on the -8.

One thing is for sure, that the heli is one smooth heli, and this really does fly bigger than any 450 I've flown so far.. and that's even with the 325 blades on it. I'm sure putting 350mm blades will make it even better..

I have the Rave 3d and i have the Scorpion 6 motor. I was using a 2200- 3S - 25C battery and i found that the battery was very hot after a flight.
I have now put in a 2650- 3S - 45C battery which is just a slight bit warm after a flight now and i am getting about 6min flight time now instead of 4min.

Through experimenting with all my 3s lipos, I did find that it was cooking the lipos.. in that they were coming down quite a bit hotter than I'm used to. Packs which were very good in my 450 3G, were really taking a beating in the Rave. I have since gone 4S now and using the scorpion -8 on 11T. A quick fly earlier today, and it seems to have good power with only 80% on the esc, and the pack came down pretty cool.

Hopefully will be giving it a few more test flights in the next few days.
