    /rant/

Its taken me 4 months to build the bloody thing (rave) got sidetracked onto planks mid build and then saturday fastlads delivered my final part the mini g gyro so got that in and been test hovering in the garden, I noticed after a few mins the power/headspeed drops so I land her and feel the esc its quite hot, not too hot for my fingers but too hot if I put my lip on it so now Im questioning should I have skimped on the flighttech 40a esc (£54)? On the 2nd battery it does the drop in power again so I land check the temp, motor is cool, battery is cool, esc is hot. 3rd battery Im still looking for this drop in power seems ok for now so I take it up to eye level to check the tracking when I loose the tail and it spins a little so being the trolley I am I slam it into full negative pitch into the ground snapping the l/g, grind the front bevel gears on the t/t and now my beautiful mint rave is lob sided b'cos of the snapped l/g and the £38 blades are grinding there tips away on a steel man hole cover in the middle of the garden! Repair bill £60 plus postage and that doesnt include a more suitable esc!

    /rant over/

Any guesses why I lost the tail, did the esc fart? the S/bec is 3amp 5volt is this not man enough for my setup? should I have used a seperate bec? I got a 10amp cc bec here but I heard some people slag them off on here. Maybe I just need to get a kontronik esc and be done with it .. does that require a seperate bec too?

I have got to get an esc for a Rave I have recently purchased. The scorpion looks like the easy option because they are available everywhere but I want to get a Thunder power which is supposed to be good but not available in any UK shops.

that TP esc you wont find it in the UK I searched high and low for that one, I even ordered it from the USA but then they upped the shipping charge by $50 dolllars so I cancelled it.

Some have used an Align 60a esc from a trex 500, some use scorpion 55/60a I thought I'd try something different but its not paying off. I heard stories of both the scorpion and the align esc's burning out. castle creations seems to be reliable but apparently kontronic are the best. All I want is a good solid setup that I dont have to worry about ... still searching.

Been using the Eflight 40A ESC for over 80 flights on my V Bar Rave without a problem.
It has a 2.5A Switched BEC, it works fine on V Bar which requires more servo current draw.
Trex 250, Rave V Bar on 4S, Logo 500SE V Bar on 8S, Kasama Simrok FBL Vbar, DX7

Well unfortunetly I unplugged my battery before I checked the rx for flashing amber light so no clues from there. Does anyone think it would be fair to say that if my esc was getting so hot I couldnt hold my lip on it for more than a couple of seconds then its too hot? (my fingers arent so sensitive lol)

                  Hi Ben,

Sorry to read about your mishap. As for the TP esc I believe you can buy it in the UK. West London Models who import Thunder Power products list them on their website.
                  I hope this helps,

                  Regards,

                  Mark.

Im using the trex 500 60 amp esc on my rave and its working great, but am running it on 6s so the current draw is alot less then the 3s set up.

Yeah 60amp is a little big, but had a hobby wing 40a and not sure if that was causing brownouts on the spektrum receiver. The max current draw of the motor is around 25amps. Im getting 6 mins flying at the moment at 95% flat throttle. Going to try a 15t pinion this week as the 13t isn't given the head speed you get with the 4400kv 3s motor
