  • Mini G

    Little bit of history..

Got a Rave 3D as my "fun" machine and as such was being built to a bit of a budget. Therefore it's a simple 3S setup with some Align (Savox) servos. As Mini G's were out of stock I took the Solid G out of my Vibe 90 to get going.

The tail servo is an Align DS520 and with the Solid G it worked ok but something just never felt quite right.. It held fine, the pirouette rate was constant but it just had a certain lack of confidence in the tail. I tried tweaking all the settings with the G View to no avail.

The gyro was excellent in the Vibe 90 on a JR 8900G and had the funds been available I would no doubt have gone for a JR 3500G on the little Rave and I'm sure it would have been much better.

Either way the Mini G turned up today and has been duly installed and taken out for a few packs.

WOW!.. what a difference! The tail feels excellent now and I've been able to go up by 20% on the gyro gain too. Have not touched any of the "advanced" settings and am running it straight as it comes out the box.

Rave is now a very happy model

    Cheers

built to a bit of a budget
Then he fit's the single most expensive gyro there is virtually

    Love it

Budget would have been a 401 or something less capable

I assume the gyro was courtesy of your sponsor

      Phil,

      Yes the gyro was.

However the rest of the electronics and the model itself were all paid for out of my own pocket.. so the gyro was the only "freebie" on it! And because of that I had to go for pretty much the cheapest "decent" tail servo I could find.. the Futaba and JR primary choices were struck off the list early on due to cost!

I just didn't expect there to be that much of a difference between the two gyros.. And as I said the Solid G worked great on my 90's..

I don't know if it was the small model or the servo it didn't like.. I'm guessing a combination of the two.

Either way there was no way a 401 was going anywhere near the model.. it may be to a budget but I still wanted it to fly well!

      Cheers
