  • Maidened my 450

So before work I couldn't resist taking the Rave 450 out for it's maiden flight.

    Specs are

Rave 450 FBL, Radix 350mm mains, KBDD 62mm tails, Savox cyclics, Futaba tail servo, HW Platinum v3 50a ESC, Scorpion motor, vbar, 6s 1300mah Haiyin packs.

    What can I say...

Just perfect, smooth, controlled, awesome stuff. Headspeed at about 3000rpm I think but I'm only running flat throttle curves not the governor yet ( will swap to the vbar governor for the next outing. )

Sadly on the second flight I stripped the tail gear whilst pirouetting. Managed to auto it down though and no other damage. On closer inspection it looks like I'd got the gear mesh wrong on the tail and stripped the gear. I know these need to be perfect so should have been more careful here. Will swap that out at home tonight.

On the whole though, have to say it's just fantastic.

Do you find it better than the chase? Or just different?

Ooooo now that's a good question.

I'm having a few issues with the tail on my Chase so a snap decision would go in the Rave's favor. But that aside, I think it's difficult to say right now.

The Rave is lighter, or at least feels it, but the motor and servos are different so that could make a bit of the difference. Will have to get them both on the scales. The Rave seems to fly much lighter though. The Rave feels smoother, and I think it's much more a sport flyer. The Rave is probably the more fragile of the two, thinner frames, canopy, thinner shafts etc, and the gear mesh is a known week point if you get it wrong ( like I did for today's flight ). The Chase I'm sure will stand up to hard 3D much better as parts are beefier, and probably crash better too. Parts availability puts the Chase well ahead too.

So it's difficult to say right now. But I did enjoy flying the Rave, I think I'll be keeping it along with it's big brother the Ballistic

Loving my chase, but it so quiet it doesn't seem as powerful as my 6s 450 pro..which is an animal!
AUW on chase with gensace 1400mah is 1137g seems a bit on the plump side..

Noise wise the Rave is pretty close to the Chase I think, it's very smooth so runs very quiet. The Chase is probably more powerful due to the monster Scorpion motor, the one I have in the Rave is a 2221 series motor so not as meaty as the 2520 in the Chase.

Yeah felt good to fly, no issues at all until I striped the gear... That was my fault though as when I inspected it it must have been quite loose and it melted the gear. Easy to fix and check the mesh again for some more flying though

Gear replaced and 4 flights today. Flies great and the tail is rock solid. I really don't understand why these weren't much more popular. I guess the distribution of them being all over the place was probably the main one.

They were popular in Norfolk when they first came out. Had a happy 400 flights on mine one summer. Glad you are enjoying the Rave.

Definatley enjoying the flying. Be interesting to properly compare the Chase and the Rave once I get the tail solid on the Chase. Tonights job is to mess about with that to try and sort it out for a proper test
