  • Oxy 4 due to release in the next week or soo

    Hey all.

The Oxy 4 is just about to release here in the uk and on the lynxheli.com website.

The quality of the oxy 2 & 3 means the 4 is sure to impress and being based on the old 325mm blade size I'm sure it will fit in just fine with cheap electronics available and low crash costs.
Theres also a stretch kit available for those that prefer 350-360mm blades.

    What do you guys think?

It looks quite nice but the price is extremely steep for a '450' :

    Oxy4 (325mm)= £329.99 (with blades)
    Oxy4 (360mm) = £309.99 + £25 (stretch kit) + £30 (blades) = £364.99

Some other helis in similar size or price ranges:
    T-Rex 450L kit (360mm) = £208.98 (with blades, motor and ESC)
    T-Rex 470LM kit (380mm) = £244.98 (with blades, motor and ESC)
    T-Rex 500x (470mm) = £271 (with blades)
    T-Rex 550X (550mm) = £349.99 (no blades)
    Gaui X3 (360mm) = £199.99 (no Blades)
    Goblin 380 (380mm) = £259 (including blades)

I do appreciate that Oxy are great quality and they are a small niche manufacturer, so you cant really expect them to compete on price with Align.. But so much more than a Gaui or Goblin? You would have to be a real Oxy enthusiast. I wish Oxy luck with it but i'm not sure there are many in today's depressed heli market who will pay that much for a 450? Time will tell i guess.

I would agree it appears expensive but a jr forza 450 was similar money and by the time I upgraded my Gaui x3 to a similar spec by getting rid of all the plastic parts and tt the oxy 4 kit and blades was cheaper! Most of us have spent more on a motor for a 700.
No one can compete with a corporation like align and the g380 is well established and had its price drop already.
Both the oxy 2 & 3 have had their price drops now they’re established so The 4 will follow in time sure

Ive just finished building mine now and it is far superior to any other 450 I’ve built.
In fact it’s a lightweight tank and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a low maintenance beater that’s easy to build and won’t have you scared to crash it.

I got mine direct from lynx shipped in 3 days but Fastlad should have them in any day now, not sure on the other shops here.

Great that you are enjoying your new Oxy 4. Hopefully it will be a big success for Oxy as it seems like a great little company ran by a genuine enthusiast. The Oxy 4 is not for me but I prefer bigger helis anyway so it would have had to be something spectacular to tempt me especially given the competition that it's price point puts it up against.

It is quite high price wise. I started building mine today and it's definitely a nice quality heli. I'm building mine as a 360 and I have to say it's leaps and bounds above the 450L I owned for a brief period. I found the 450L really flimsy feeling and not as solid as I'd have liked.

I've still to maiden my Oxy2 but that's a nice heli, and the Oxy3 has served me very well, and it's hit the dirt a few times and keeps bouncing back for more

The only heli I would compare it to 450 size wise is the Chase 360, but since KDS royally buggered that one up with crap quality, I'm hoping the Oxy4 will replace it for me.

'Tanks' are never really lightweight It looks very robustly built for sure but that usually means heavy. I noticed Luca the owner of Lynx did a 'lightweight' build using the smaller motor and batteries from an Oxy 3. He said it weighed 950g in that lightweight configuration. That kinda seems to confirm my suspicions because the old Trex 450 Pro used to weight in the range 800-850g.

So what does the Oxy weigh in a more typical build configuration?.. i'm guessing around 1050g -1100g or so?

At that weight (assuming i'm in the right ballpark) I'd be looking at the 360mm stretch too, it's very heavy for a 325mm 450. I guess it depends how you like your helis to feel, heavier can make them smoother flying and less effected by wind.

ww2 tanks maybe, but today is a different story when you compare power to weight ratio and the improvements in strength.
My oxy 4 weighs in at 852g with 325mm zeals, xnova 2618,hw60a v4, kst215mg's, brain fbl and a dsmx sat, 1048g with a gens ace 1250 6s lipo, not too far off your guess grumpy.
It doesn't fly heavy at all though, it has way more power than it needs because the power to weight ratio is higher, that or some magic is involved.
The oxy 3 was heavier than the 300x yet its so much better to fly and much less damage in a crash.
These designs are proving themselves in time to really work for us, they are really strong, easy to repair, match current electronics and working out cheaper in the long run to learn 3d with, most 450's did actually achieve 2 of those qualities but are no longer comparable.

I don't dispute that it flies great but compared to other 325mm blade 450s it's probably the heaviest of the lot, so can't really legitimately be described as 'lightweight'. That doesn't mean it's not a great little heli.

I think weight is a little bit difficult since the electronics have got fatter and heavier over time. Not saying you're wrong about it not being light by the way, just that we have to be careful what we compare.

I haven't flown my Oxy4 yet, but I'm building it to a 360mm size and can compare it to the helis I've owned in this size. Rave 3D, Chase 360, Phoenixtech TT360 ( Half trex450, half Rave 3D ), Trex 450L. I did have a Goblin 380 and really loved that, but that's really in a different class so can't really fairly compare.

                  For me

450L - I tried to like it, but it just felt a bit flimsy. It flew well though, and the parts were cheap.

Rave 3D - Lovely heli, nice big canopy so great visibility, flew great... until the tail gears stripped. It also wasn't the strongest in the world frame wise. Could have been great with some updates but sadly never happened.

Chase 360 - LOVED the design. OK it was quite heavy, but built lovely and flew great... until you got the dredded tail wag after replacing a component, or your belt drive failed for any number of part failures. Great heli, designed by Glenn who I became friends with and chatted to often, spoilt completely by bad manufacturing

TT360 - Well it was a nice heli. Learned to fly with one. Cheaper than a trex to keep in the air, and was nearly disposable. But it was a clone mix of the trex and Rave and so it never gained huge numbers of pilots, then the guy distributing them here gave up and it died. I have been tempted to get another one, but it's not cheap enough to make me do it.

So for me I'm seeing the Oxy4 as a potential to take the majority of good bits of the helis I've flown, and combine them into one. Can't say that's true yet but we will see

I must have got lucky with my Chase 360. I picked it up pre-built but unflown on the classified's here for a great price. It needed some work to put building errors right but other than that it's been totally reliable. I've not had to put an allen-key on it since I first flew it. I love the design too, possibly a bit OTT with it's dual stage reduction but it's so well thought out and manages to stand out from the crowd of 'samey' heli designs.

I wish I'd been that lucky. Although actually I was right at the beginning. It flew great, then I tried stretching it, but never finished that due to having a vibration. I swapped back to the original boom and then had the same thing. After many many part swaps, KDS releasing several different varients of the same parts to fix problems like pinions on the second stage eating themselves ( which then caused me to have a bump which meant ordering more parts that were further out ), I ended up with a severe vibration due to badly manufactured parts. Mostly it was the hole in pinions etc not being drilled central, so nothing lined up right. I never solved the bad tail wag I had and gave up in the end as I measured every part being sent to me finding each different in various ways

Don't crash it or wear any parts out and I'm sure it will work perfectly. Although I would hope KDS have managed to start making parts that work by now lol You're right though, the design is completely OTT, but that's kind of it's draw.
