  • Velocity N2 - Progress

So after my shiney new N2 crashed 2 minutes into its maiden due to a servo arm breaking and then following a rush to get it repaired I managed to put the blade grips on back to front and stuck it in 30 secends into the 2nd attempt at a maiden I was starting to feel a bit disheartened.

My club mate Thumb Rocker took pity on me, he took the heli away and spent the week repairing it and setting it up again so that we could go for the 3rd maiden this weekend. I was very cautious, checked absolutely everything, checked it again, spooled it up on the ground without take off for half a tank of fuel checking that everything was doing what it should then got it back on the bench and checked everything again.

Because I'm convinced that I'm the jonah in all this I asked Thumb Rocker to do the first flight for me. No canopy this time and an old set of 600 blades cause we didnt want to take any chances, it took off, it did a couple of gentle circuits, it did a piro, it did a pitch pump, it did a pitch pump/piro and stripped the main gear!

Still at least we got a about 90 seconds flying out of it this time and he managed to land without destroying it! I just dont know if that counts as progress or not?

Shame to hear mate. Outrage really need to sort out their main gears.

Bad luck! I suppose it is progress as it didn't go in this time. You've got me thinking about maidens now (that's maiden flights, not the virtuous female type!) as I'm normally too excited to think straight and just want to get the heli in the air. Have you any idea what caused it to strip? Do you think it's a quality issue because I hear varying reports about Outrage's quality (normally favourable over the last year or so).
Hope you get it sorted and get it flying as it should asap!!

There's been lots about the TT gears stripping but not the main gear, I run all the black gears (TT, main & auto) and have not had a problem.

I dont know, on my V2 I had the white gears and only ever stripped the TT ones if I crashed so they seemed pretty resiliant, Outrage then said that they were bringing out the black gears as an upgrade so I assumed they would be better quality on the N2. The meshing and backlash were spot on, Thumb Rocker checked it, I checked, and we all checked it after the strip by using the good side of the gear so it can only be a quality issue and not one of poor alignment.
Ive been looking round other forums and no one else seems to be having problems so it might just be bad luck again!

Yea but both times it went in I'd hit TH and it was checked pretty thoroughly before being re used. I guess that could be the problem but if you have to replace everything after a crash its not a very viable model.

I agree but I think that is probably your problem, good time to replace with the newer black ones.

Make sure you get the full set of black ones if you do, you can't mix the black and white gears.

So long as the TT gears are all white or all black, it doesn't matter about the main and auto for mixing colours

Is it the same pinion used on the maingear as before, only time i stripped gears was because of different sized pinions being used on the one gear. The only other time was a bad mesh(to lose). The black ones ive managed better pinion/maingear meshing

Are you saying Climb-out told you the front and back TT, main & auto gears all need to be the same colour ???

The Latest Fusion 50 kits (KR50F02) only come with black front & back TT gears, the main & auto gears are white and the black ones are optional, before I got the black main/auto gears I ran mine like this and it worked perfectly.

Just to clear up any confusion, all the gears on my N2 are black, (when I spoke about white ones they were the ones on my V2) the one that stripped was black, and the one I have now replaced it with is black.
