  • G10, Silver GRP or full Carbon?

I have a Silver G5 (which I believe is actually GRP, not ‘Silver Carbon’ as touted at the time I bought it in October 2008) and am now considering getting a FBL G5. I think the G5 is a great machine.

From what I read, G10 is in a number of ways superior to Carbon Fibre (more flexible, less brittle and therefore fares better in crashes, no potential static issues, cheaper, more resistant to surface scratches and marking) and is used in a lot of really top-end R/C helicopters. I also believe G10 comes in various qualities......

So my Question is should I save money and get the G10 G5 FBL kit? I fly sport, no 3D just flying round with some loops and rolls, but my flying style is scale-like because that is all I can handle! Is the Outrage G5 in G10 just as good in practical performance terms to the Silver GRP and or the Carbon Fibre versions?

Hopefull of an informed oppinion (Ashley??) rather than theoretical speculation....

I would just stick with the G10 kit, why bother the extra expence of carbon, the only real advantage it gives is a stiffer frame and slightly lighter

G10 is probably a better choice of material. The advantage of a few grams of weight saving on a CF frame over G10 is quickly lost if you have a glitch or lockout from RF interference from the carbon fiber that results in a crash

I didn't get anywhere trying to research this, and ended up with C/F as C/F is cool, and it came with a prettier canopy. (red/green/black/yellow one.)

        I'm obviously disgusted with myself...

FWIW, which canopy you get now seems to have become a bit random.

My current Silver G5 has a red/white/yello canopy which I like, I also have a new red/green/yellow wirh black 'windscreen', as a spare, so I am happy with 'pot luck' on the canopy.

I think I will go with G10 as it is £40 cheaper.....

I chose G10 when i bought my Radikal because if the following?

G10: An extremely durable makeup of layers of fiberglass soaked in resin, then highly compressed and baked. Impervious to moisture or liquid and physically stable under climate change. Most commonly black, but is available in various colors, too.

CARBON FIBER: A contemporary, premium composite of thin strands of carbon tightly woven into various weave patterns, then set in resin, which is most commonly clear but can be color tinted. It offers great looks and is exceptionally strong for its minimal weight.

            G10
            Cheaper
            Strong
No shielding of the TX signal
            Not conductive
            Chemical resistant
            Better vibration absorption

            Slghtly heavier though

            Just some info

Don't mind slightly heavier, not a 3D flyer. G5 FBL in G10 already on it's way from FastLads.
