Outrage on 5 cells?

A lot of folks are running the trex500 on 5 cells rather than 6.
This allows them to charge two packs at a tie on a certain popular 10S charger.

I realise the outrage comes as a package with the 6S 1400 outrage pack, but is there a viable performance option to run it on a 5 cell pack of 1600-1800 to get similar performance and flight time?

Very few folks run more then 4s in the 450, perhaps 6S is overkill (but yes, overkill is a good thing sometimes).

I think the 5S packs in use on the Trex500 will be too heavy for the Outrage G5.
I run 5S 3300 packs, and they will definitely be too heavy.

Possibly something around 1800 mAh would work though?

there is no reason why you cant use 5s on the g5 you just need to adjust the pack size and choose the right KV motor to suit.

by my calcs your looking for 1600mah and 2000kv to get the same watt/hrs and motor RPM

i cant find a good 5s pack, i think outrage have some 1500s coming but im not sure if they are going to be available in 5s

aurorra do a 1500 cell and are able to make 5s up for you. Outrage have some 1500s coming too but not sure at this time if they are 5s i will check up and let you know.

the stock 1700kv motor is worth a try with the 13t pinion. im running 12t on 6s i will dig some more info and let you know.

FYI, I run 4s 2100's in my outrage G5 with a 4s Scorpion motor and it has the same performance as Ash's mental power 6s setup (give or take a bit).

5S would definitely work and pack size would need to be around 1500-1800mah as already suggested. I would probably try 1500kv and 1800kv as there is nothing much inbetween those two sizes.

kv you can get away with quite a bit as there are various pinions available. You could use the 6S motors already available and just pinion them higher, I think the 13T would work ok on those motors that curently use an 11T pinion. Those using 12T would need a 14T pinion. I'm sure it would work fine and you get twin pack charging.
