  • Advice please

    Hi all...

While i'm still new to this i'm looking for a summer build of a larger bird and after much wrangling i think Fusion50 is the way i'm going ...

Have read the full 'Fusion 50 for a newbie' thread and found it great since it did cover most of my issues to so thanks to everyone who participated in that....

I was almost totally set on getting a 550 / 6S setup and despite the extra cost i think 12S is luring me....

Can you cast an eye over this potential shopping list and recommend more suitable components where necessary but i don't want build cost to go much over what it already is Initially i was gonna get a Trex550 + Vbar i figure buy once, buy right

Fusion 50 FBL Kit inc outrage 4125/560kv motor
    Spektrum H6040's cyclic
    MKS BLS980 on Tail
    Scorpion commander 90A HV ESC
    Full size Vbar
    Edge 603mm Main blades
14T pinion (assuming it doesn't come in the kit)

Things i think i'm missing / spec for me please .... BEC/Voltage reg to power servos or is it better / simpler to go with a life pack?
Which lipo packs offer good value for money?

    Thanks in advance!
    Jamie

The spec you listed is spot on, no issues there although i opted for a mini vbar as it sits in there perfect.

I would use a Li-Fe pack instead of a BEC. Keeps things simple and a consistent voltage.

As for the packs Opti's seem to proving very well ATM with a usable, non selective warranty too!

Either a LiFe pack or get a Kontronik Jive and use the internal BEC.

By the time you have bought the Scorpion and a BEC/LiFe pack, you aren't far off Kontronik money anyway.

The new Scorpion comes with a BEC I believe so I would say there is no point in running a seperate LiFe pack. You could argue that on power loss you could still retain control I suppose. I think the spec looks good, I would try Gens Ace in whatever mAh you want to run. I'm running the 3300's at 540gms each and they have excellent power and they're cheap.

The Outrage motor is a bit of a screamer by all accounts, have you looked at the Scorpion range or the Align 600Mx. A few of us are running this motor and they go well at little cost. Are you sure you've got the pinion right, you would be capable of a 2800 headspeed, not sure what the governor is like on the Scorpion, a 13 would sound better, try this for your headspeed calc

The other thing is the Scorp is massive, it will just fit under the canopy from memory but only just

Thanks for the input .... will re-evaluate the ESC/BEC/LiFe thing .... reason for outrage motor is that given its included in the kit its cheaper than pretty much most other motors
It said on the site either 13T or 14T .... sounds like 13T is the more sensible choice

Only thing i thought about mini vbar vs full is vibrations .... with all the servos going into the mini wouldn't it be more prone?
Don't get me wrong, i'm running the spekky BeastX on my 450 fine, just figured situation would be worse on a 600 size

The Kontronic Jive 80HV is £280 .... surely a LiFe pack or separate bec (£35?) on top of a £165 ESC isn't going to come close unless i'm missing something...

What spec of LiFe pack should i look for?

Only niggle is whether this is WAY too much of a heli for me at this stage (even in 3 months time) and should stick to something closer to the 500-550 mark .... just trying to think of the whole buy once-buy right thing

The fusion with vbar is a awesome Heli to say the least, mine is so calm and stable in the hover but flick a switch and it all goes blurry. I went with full size vbar too, it makes more sense to me as I can use it in future models, nitro or electric.

Life/bec is personal choice, I went with a bec on 1 6s pack only.

With science on my side I would also recommend you take a look at the Gens Ace packs.
