  • Outrage 550 should I go 6s or 12s?

I will soon be getting an Outrage 550 airframe and basically I am wondering
if there's any advantage to going 12s or should I stick to 6s?

    With 12s I'm guessing that 2 of the 6s 2650 packs I already have
for the 500 should work pretty well in series. So this would mean I
could buy more of the same packs and be able to share them with
    both helis.

Going 6s I could start out using two of the 2650 packs in parallel
but ultimately it would be best to invest in some 6s 5000 packs.

So is there any big advantage of one over the other?

(one consideration is cost of the motor and ESC, in which I could
use Align parts for a 6s setup and I'm not sure what the options would
be for 12s and the difference in cost)

Is was looking into this as well but you beat me to the airframe. Go over to helifreaks in the power setups

12s will be considerably more especially for a decent HV esc. Obviously you get all the HV benefits but 6s will be a lot cheaper. A 12s 30 size is going to be soooo powerfull for sure & something i've considered for my 500 but then the cost of running 6s wins each time.

8s is probs more than enough HV for a 30 size leccy

In the background is also the thought that if I were to start getting some 6s 5000 packs I could use them in pairs for
a larger electric at some point down the road, but to be honest this is only a remote possibility as I just don't know if
a big electric heli would be practical for me to carry around and stuff.

I'd stay with 6s, it has more then enough power when used with the scorpion 4020 1390 motor. And if to much power you will strip the main gear which can happen even on 6s.

Dave has run it on a 6s 5000 pack since he has had it, and it's been flawless. Loads of power with good flight times. I would have thought he was selling the packs too, might be worth a PM.

I Was worried about stripping main gears so I bought 1 then let Jamiem fly it and he flew the hell out of it proper fast transitions 5mins of canning it and it was superb if Jamie can't strip a spur gear no one will lol.

I set the back lash with the smallest of play at it's tightess spot

high voltage will always be more efficient. volts * amps = power

double the voltage and half the amps which means less volt drop etc.

It doesnt have to be more powerful adding more cells only means more power if you gear and pitch it for it. Everything like connectors etc will be a lot happier. the question is if a 12s capable esc with a lower current rating is cheaper than a 6s esc
