  • Outrage 550: The perfect LiPo

    Hello,

    Those packs
OUTRAGE 5C NRG35 4S1P 14.8V 3700mAH 35C are a candidate for the "perfect 550 LiPo" (together with Hyperion 3300 mAh, which is a little bit small for my taste).

The Outrage packs had a couple of 100 mAhs missing when I cycled them at 1C. But maybe they need to be broken in.

Hmmm from what i understand, to actually put back full MAh in a pack you would have to discharge that pack down next to nothing + i thought it is not a good practise to discharge lipos past 80% of thier capacity.
Anyways, are you running a kontronik esc on your 550? i've recently got one on my 550 & man i see the difference in the performance of the Gov straight away, compared to the castle creations ice100 or the 85HV, this thing is MAD POWER but very smooth with it. If you are running a kontronik esc which one is yours? & is there a way to speed up the soft start a little?
Planes want to Fly But Helis want to crash.... don't believe? take your hands off those sticks. Unless there's a Microbeast fitted.

      Hello,

good practise or not, the pack must achieve the rated capacity. Don't try it in flight, but I cycled it at much lower current. 1C discharge corresponds to a flight time of about one hour

I use a Jive 80 HV. You can use one of the programming cards to set the softstart to 6 seconds.

What I didn't mention, the pack is 8s, not 6s as conventionally used in the 550.

ohhh, i see what you mean. You mentioned using the card, i've got the procard 2, where on it you are you able to adjust the sec? the only parameters i can see are:
        bec voltage
        brake strength
        vernier
        rpm control
        reverse rotation
        hold
        load defaults

capacity check is normally done at 0.5C and it should give full mAh regardless of break-in or not. Break-in just allows the pack to electrically form for power delivery, it shouldn't gain capacity from this process. Don't forget capacity is temperature dependent so your missing 200mah may just be that you performed the test at too cold temperature.

Also, some chargers don't fully charge and cutoff early, which is another common issue with capacity checking.

must be the other progcard, then. To access all parameters, you need both.
Might be that 1C was too high. The Bantam BC-6 uses 4.20 V for all cells down to 3.00 V in the lowest cell.

Let us know how it goes, I am thinking of running two 4S packs on my Logo 500 to decrease pack and ESC temps. (Jive 80+ HV also)

Wouldn't 4000mAh or 4200mAh be more ideal, and provide longer flights + decrease pack temps.

That's what I usually use, Hyperion 4200 mAh.
With those packs, it's is a bit heavy for nervous 3D, but shines in long smooth moves like funnels and the like. It has quite some momentum, I use it for F3C training.

Two Hyperion 42000mAh packs weigh in at about the same as one 6S 5000mAh pack which is the standard for the Logo 500, and I know that standard can be flown hard! But I like the cooler packs etc of HV.

OK, a quick update on the outrage pack.
Now it puffs like a world champion, and it hasn't seen that many cycles (really nowhere near my Hyperion packs).
Let's hope the TORQ servos are any good, otherwise my trust in the Outrage brand is failing.

The capacity is really a bit low. Turnigy packs showed the full capacity in my 1C cycle test (don't worry, I'm not turning into a HK fanboy if they suck I will bash them. But so far those are holding up fine).
