it's been quiet on the 550 Forum ...
The washer between main gear hub and the middle main shaft bearing was worn, squeezed flat and getting too thin.
Since it is only included with the expensive hub assembly, I put in a leftover washer from a T-Rex 700 thrust bearing kit:

And it seems to work... (tried only one battery because of the cold).
