  • Outrage 550 parts availability

Hi, I was thinking to buy an Outrage 550 to replace my Swift 16...

The reason for it is that I really struggle to get the spares for the swift not because i did not like it. The Outrage is a similar size machine and I could use my 6s 4900mah battery packs and the Scorpion 4020 from the Swift.

Now... I dont want to have the same problem getting the spares for the O550 so here I am asking: How good is their availability in Uk?
Is the O550 popular on the flying fields? I dont see many threads about it on the forum...

    Thanks for ur time

    I've got one. It rocks.
I've tried it on 6s 5000 mAh 25 C. It's OK, for sports flying (I'm sure one could get more power out of it, but I don't own any higher pinion than 13 teeth).
Currently, mine runs on 8s 4200, and it's ballistic. If you have Phoenix, you can check it out there. The model is pretty good (I found it took some time getting used to). Mine has substantially more power than the model, flight times 4:40 on one pack. Spares via fastlad, apparently no problem. I simply got a 2nd kit.

i have only bought mine recently but Blink and fast lads both stock spares so parts should not be a problem.
So far it seems good but haven't really had chance to get it set up and flying to my liking as yet, hopefully by the weekend will have it running better and the links would of loosened up a bit

        it's IMO not a problem:
As said, I own a 2nd kit. Yesterday I switched the whole rotor, swashplate and upwards. I couldn't tell the difference between the old one that has been broken in, and the new one with tight links.

Note: Some kits have been shipped with two pairs of damper spacers instead of thrust washers. This will cause the blade grips to lock up, and servos get hot (happened to me, I simply assembled the parts that were in the bag without measuring them).

          Really on 8s????
I honestly thought you could get longer flights on 8s... you must be flying really hard 3d.
With my swift on 6s I get 8-9 minutes of fast sport flying and loops and rolls....Will I get anywhere near it with the O550 on same power system???

If you want it that way, I'm sure you'll get longer flight times out of it easily. Simply use a motor with a more appropriate kV.

The abovementioned 4:40 are reliable even with doing power-hungry moves like continuous loops (because I may not hear that the ESC is shutting down when nitro helis are in the air).

If I do continuous tic-tocs, the 80 A Kontronik Jive overheats after half a minute and shuts down. Assuming the nominal 80 A is the limit, the heli draws 32 V * 80 A = 2.5 kW. That's a lot of power for an overgrown 450 it's no surprise that flight times are short.
I think you'll be fine with the smaller motor.

4:40 on 8S...... what on earth are you doing???? should be far more than that. I get over 5mins on 6S doing continuous 3D.

I'll have to check it. Sqeezing out an extra minute might be possible.
I fly a lot of F3Cish moves. Possibly the very fast flying consumes even more power.

Flying reasonably hard with a Z30-1100 motor and 13T pinion a 5 minute flight used around 3000mAh out of my 5000 6S packs, I'm still running in the packs so being reasonably careful but did manage to strip a main gear in a full stick climb-out, although I found the pinion was loose which was probably the cause. I do wonder what it would be like with the Z50-1100 out of my Logo 500 though.

The same happened here. It gets then very hot and melts the main wheel. Probably nothing to worry about.
I ground a very small notch into the motor shaft, and attached the pinion with genuine blue loctite over the whole contact area (for some reason, the cheap noname threadlock doesn't hold as well).

mesh the main gear real tight on the 550 to avoid gear strips, it wants only a tiny weeny bit of play in it on the high spot of the gear, the paper method spaces it too far away IMO.

                          OK, some new "data":
I reduced the headspeed, now using a flat 60 throttle curve on the Kontronik governor. I flew 5:30 (incl. 12 seconds softstart), mild 3D (rainbows), ended at the first sign of bogging. The cell voltage was 3.7 V.
The charger put back 3370 mAh in to the 4.2 Ah packs.

A flight time around 6 minutes should be possible. But I'd rather not run out of battery in mid-air. It autos like a brick.

The Z30 has a flat already ground into the shaft, the pinion didn't spin but moved downwards and the flared part of the pinion base did for the main gear. I' was using blue threadlock but have now changed to Loctite 601 green which has always given very good results and is high temperature resistant.

That's a surprise, I'm using quite heavy 5000 6S packs with some old MS Composit 550 blades and auto's are fine.

I agree, mine autos fine even with very light SAB reds on it.
