  • Mini Protos anybody ???

Just checking out different 450 size heli's.

Always fancied a Mini Protos. Love the look of them and their quietness

Anyone got one ? What are they like?
    Cheers Matt

AcidDrink has one I'm sure he'll comment soon

However remember that crash costs will be high compared to a 450 pro, so if buying new the Warp 360 may be a better choice

Why will the crash cost be high. Is the cost of spares expensive or do they generally not crash well?

had one there very good smoth quiet fast nimble seem better than a 450pro, but yes they crash awfull everything just really weak, pretty certain to do a frame, were as a 450 pro 20+ crashes no broken frames :-)

I'm pretty sure it's more to crash than a 450 pro as I had a protos and parts were quite a bit more. Also the kit cost is more too.

Also, with my protos I found that parts were sometimes hard to get from the UK such as FBL feathering shafts and FBL link balls.

I have one - absolutely love it - my favourite heli. I'm not a great flier unforunately - only sports - but it flies beautifully, virtually silent and just works. I've only crashed once which was pretty much the same cost as a crash on my 450 Pro - some parts are slightly more expensive, others are much cheaper (high performance carbon plastic grips £3.50 for e.g.). Mine has needed no maintenance at all, none, zip, nada.

There is a thread on HF where a couple of other guys are saying that theirs is also their favourite - even though one owns a Goblin and the other a TDR (from memory). They are very versatile as well - you can stretch them to 350mm, 3S, 4S or 6S

Any eta and indicated price for the warp?

Edit: just seen prices on westons site. 500 should get it in the air....

                    Thanks Guys,

It certainly seems the people that own Protos heli's love them. I have heard that they are not the best crashers, but I suppose it's the price you pay for lightness

I don't have a Mini just a normal 500 but it's a really nice heli. I'm sure the mini will be every bit as good.
You thought about an Embla? I've just built one and it's beautifully made, though mine had a badly out of balance motor.

WoW!! That thing is solid in that last video - there's absolutely no drift whatsoever when he's holding it upside down. I can't imagine being able to hold it as precisely as that!! I'd love a Mini Protos. I've always loved them. I think it's down to them being in the first ever RC Heli mag I ever picked up. But there's no point in me getting something like that until I've at least mastered my 450 Sport!
