  • Mini photos fell out of the sky!

On second flight since buying it second hand it lost all power to the motor but control functions remained ok leaving me to do my first emergency auto!
No damage and now it seems ok again.
Can anyone help with info on the esc as I have a programming card but the instructions are a bit vague

    Many thanks
    Ben

I've started having similar issues on mine since replacing motor with te later scorpion msh badged mtr. I nice one capacitor is getting hot which is odd. Mine has the original 80 amp msh esc.
It has been cutting for about 2 seconds even on mild manoeuvres. So I'm going to replace the esc as its had some knocks in its long life!
Pretty sure it's not lvc as it happens even early n flights and lipos are pretty new too

I was expecting to see a story about passport photos raining from the heavens!
Sorry - joke - and sorry to hear about your problems. I know nothing about the Protos but it does sound ESC related.

Yes sorry about the spelling - Ipad predictive nonsense.

Having become more aquainted with the program card I found the LVC was set to its highest ie 3.4 volts so I have reduced it down to 3.0. I havn't had the oppertunity to give it another go but I would be interested to know what you run yours at.

I believe my esc is a 60A version.

        Thanks for the response

        Ben

Sounds like a dodgy capacitor. Could be worth changing. Heating caused by high esr or resistance if you like. High esr means capacitor does not do its job which is to hold volts. Things that get hot usually fail. If you run to 3.0V with your lipo it will not last long. 3.6V is a sensible minimum.

I was only up for about 3 mins before it cut, but I had fitted an Align DFC head, on which I later discovered the ball links were very tight and may have caused the servos to overwork drawing more current?

I have no intention of running my bats down to 3V and always use the timer, I just wanted to try to eliminate the LVC from the equation.

It's actually not raining at the mo. so might go home and give it another go!

              Thanks to all so far

Out of interest, how did you fit the DFC head?
Did you turn a mainshaft down to 5mm or bore out the headblock?
